This was a learning opportunity for us. Test us hard early. Let's see what we do with our lessons.

Guys take another one on the chin, 7-0 to UCSB. We made a bunch of errors and only had 3 hits. Pitching so-so. Maybe better tomorrow.

Seemed to play a better game tonight although a baserunning error by Eager may have cost us a run. Some great plays made by Watts at 3rd, several by Clearman in center and one by Gieser st 1st bade. Too many strikeouts. When you can't put the ball in play youare offensively behind the 8-ball. Seems we are also hamstrung because of our lack of infielders. We can't situationally pinch hit for a weak hitting infielder because we only have 4 who can play (I guess--we haven't played more than 4 yet (3rd, SS, 2nd).

Baseball wins with 5 runs in 9th. Gaucho's come back with 3 runs but we hold on for a 5-4 win. Two great pitching efforts by Hawkins and Riley. Clearman has established himself as our starting CF with 2 hits and several outstanding plays. Wimpee with a bases full double down the line for 3 RBI. Great win.

Glad we could pull out one win. Overall 5-3 is not a bad start to the season. I hope we can keep coming together.

There has really been lots to like about the 2020 Cat baseball team. Several freshmen have performed well including Hayden Clearman, Cameron Cromer, and Miller Ladusau. Our pitching looks good too even with the game vs TCU that got out of hand. Even that game could have been different if Chirpich had continued. I'm especially impressed with how we've cut down on walks. Tanner Riley looks like the real deal as a closer, which we've needed for a long time. Hope to see Johnson from Abilene Hi pitch some too, but it seems we have a wealth of quality arms. The one weakness so far has been the number of times we've struck out but we've played half our games vs really good teams nd pitching so maybe that's just early season jitters. We show good speed, good OF defense, solid up the middle defense. A concern is the number of pitches that Dickson at catcher does not handle cleanly (I like him at catcher) and the batting style of Cazarin (pulls away from every pitch). We have 4 games before our 1st conference series so the Youngstown series is really important to get some bugs worked out and solidify some starting positions but we look to me to have a pretty competitive team going forward.

Just thinking about changes I'd make and one is moving Clearman up in the batting order to get more AB's. It's great having someone in the 9th spot who can get on but shouldn't someone with Clearman's speed and bat control get more AB's? Just thinking!

Just fyi-Coach is redshirting Johson this season, so no, we won't see him at all this year.

Those things are good to know. Any other "inside info" that would help us fans and ACU supporters?

Well, we've installed a new camera system in center field to help us with sign....ok, just kidding. Nope, no other real news. Sources tell me the kid from Korea throws a legit 94 but has some location issues. I think we've got some really great arms and should expect to see that pay off over the next couple years.

Wagner pitched a magnificent game. No runs, no hits and only 3 batters over the minimum. Not sure how we got him ( can't see any announcement and we wasn't on my original signee list) but he seems to be a keeper. Looks like we have 4 quality starters in Wagner, Ruesch, Hawkins, and Chirpich. If we can get some hitters hot, this could be a really good season.

Loss tonight 4-2. Totally handcuffed by their lefty on the mound. I'm baffled why we had 3 consecutive left handed batters in a row in the 2, 3, and 4 spots and 5 total in the lineup. Could we not separate the a little to have a little stronger batting lineup. Just asking. It's still early in the season, let's see some different players and see what they do under the lights. Maybe we don't have anyone else. Let's get 'em tomorrow.
