I remember H telling this story about his school, which is now called Schertz Clemens HS. The name of the HS for decades was Schertz-Cibolo for the 2 primary towns that made up the district. The district built a new HS building around 1970 (as H was moving to the HS) and they decided to rename the school Samuel Clemens HS. Why? Because all of the band uniforms and athletic jerseys has a big SC on them for Schertz-Cibolo and they did not want to buy everything anew.
The school would not be regularly called Schertz Clemens until decades later when Cibolo got their own HS (Steele HS) and they would not bristle at the school being called Schertz Clemens and their town be left out.
NOTE: Sorry to digress on this thread away from recruiting. I will only post "offers-related" info on here from now on -- I promise.

A few notes-
The FCS announced they will have their championship game on May 16. That will be quite a quick turnaround to potentially play games in May and then start up fall camp again in August.
No new WR Coach yet. I've been told that they do NOT appear to be hiring from within.
Classes start up on Monday. Other than Smith and Brannon, it doesn't appear that we will have any other transfers. Could that change? Yes. But at the moment, those 2 are it for now. I will say it again, because of the transfer portal, it is a marathon not a sprint.
The staff does appear to be in good shape with some HS players. OL appears to be the major focus, though WR and DL are getting lots of looks too. Signing day is Feb. 3.
They are also trying to flip some commits. There are several players that have committed to other programs, and ACU is trying to see if they can get them to flip their commitment to ACU

A few thoughts on Mavsman's post. 1) It is a quick turnaround and I'm glad we don't have to make it. Will some in the transfer portal who played in the fall be eligible to play in the spring with another program? Is there any value to a transfer or drop-down to go to a school that is playing in the spring? 2) I'm glad we appear to be in good shape with HS players. Last year's recruiting disturbed me from the standpoint of having so many transfers on the roster (over 50 if I remember correctly). I really want to see us recruit and develop HS talent and be able to take a transfer who can make an immediate impact in an area of weakness. It seems to me that we got away from that last year (and because of the transfer portal that may become the norm). 3) Not sure about the "flipping of commits." I don't like to think someone is trying to influence our commits. Just doesn't seem the right thing to do, to me. 4) I've not looked at the transfer portal very deeply. Are there certain positions that top the list or are the numbers pretty uniform across all positions?

Bogey, I don't think that a player who appeared on a roster in the fall can play for someone else in the spring. ACU track has an athlete transferring to ACU at midterm -- Prudence Kiyeng from Wayland. Prudence ran for WBU last year (2019-2020) and was on the roster for XC at WBU this year, although WBU did not compete any XC meets in the fall. Because she appeared on the roster for WBU in the fall and the fall is SUPPOSED to be the XC season, the NCAA has said she cannot compete in spring XC meets for ACU, including the SLC XC meet which is planned for February. The strange part of this - she IS immediately eligible to compete for ACU in indoor track, since it is a winter sport. So, while the indoor track and XC seasons will run concurrently this spring, she is eligible for one and ineligible for the other!

If that be true then there should be no reason for a player who has entered the portal to make a quick decision about transfering to a school who is playing ball in the spring. No spring practice to get a jump on the fall. ACU seems to be in a better spot, since we will have spring ball.

By the way, last season Coastal Carolina started spring practice early (Feb) and finished with their spring before Covid hit. Could this have been an contributing factor to their great year?

I'll add a little more to this:
1. Not sure if players that played in the fall can play in the spring. I don't think they can, but haven't seen anything for certain.
2. Remember that commitments are non-binding for the player and the program. One of the players we are interested in is committed to a Pac-12 school. However, he never signed and they had a coaching change. Does the new staff want him? Does he want to play for that staff?
3. The portal is crazy deep at all positions right now. The NCAA is allowing all players to have a one-time automatic transfer without having to sit out. Welcome to college free agency! Within minutes that an FBS player hits the portal, dozens of coaches from programs all over the country start following.

Lots for coaches to stay on top of this year with HS kids, JuCo players, and the transfer portal. No rest for the weary.

Quick off the ball, impressive if really 6’3 and 285. Lots of potential there.
