They did have a group of HS players on campus today, since it is the first day prospects could be on campus. Several have already tweeted about being at ACU

All the ones I've seen seem to have liked what they saw. Of course that is usually the general rule when athletes tweet after a visit so hard to put much stock into it. I do like the looks of the Temple kid that visited today.

OK, if I have this correct we now have 17 OL on board:
Last years holdovers: Hayden Burke Peyten Girty Dylan Howerton Truett Knox Jaron Marshall Mitch Melrose Tanner Parker Ty Smith Wyatt Tate Zach Terry
Change positions: Jacob Thielen
Newcomers: Reese Moore Jackson Andrews Derek Simmons Cohen Carpenter Collin James Kaleb Chester
Are we looking for more with the "transfer portal" camp? Is everyone on campus now? Do we need to correct this list?

Is everyone excited about the O-line Newcomers:
Reese Moore - Smart young man graduated from UT. However football wise he only played in 2 games in his UT tenure did not start or letter Jackson Andrews - High School Derek Simmons - 2020-21 played/participated in 1 game out of 5 games and did not start Cohen Carpenter - High School - twitter shows received DII and NAIA offer to play Collin James - 2019 shows he played in 0 games in college tenure...no 2020 stats Kaleb Chester - played in 3 games in his college tenure and did not start at the DII level
It truly floors me that ACU can't attract some stud O-Linemen. Hopefully the collage newcomers will come in and show they can play. Maybe these JC transfers will come in work themselves into the starting lineup and make positive impact on the field for ACU, i find it hard to believe it will happen when they did not start for their JC or participate in more 2 games in three years. Maybe the two high school kids will be the next Jacob Thielen...I truly hope this is the case.
Me personally I'm not sure what i'm most excited about high school or JC players. I'll just have to wait and see. Best of luck to all the new and former players.

Bogey, that looks like the group that will be here in the fall. By sheer numbers, it would appear to be as deep an o-line corps that I have seen. A few observations:
-I spoke with Melrose's Dad at the spring game and he will be in Tyler for all or part of the summer working with the people at APEC to strengthen his ankles. The APEC Founder and CEO is Bobby Stroupe, who has a pretty strong list of people who train at APEC as much as possible, a list that includes Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
-On the newcomer list -- 4 are transfers and 2 are freshmen. All 6 have been accepted at ACU and several are enrolled for the fall, but only 1 (Reese Moore) is currently enrolled in summer school. Of course, a lot of the fall athletes come to campus during the summer and don't necessarily take classes.
-Of the transfers, three come from 4-year programs (Reese Moore - UT; Derek Simmons - D-2 Tusculum; and Kaleb Chester - D-2 Lenoir-Rhyne) and 1 JC (Collin James - Lackawanna). ACU has had much better luck in getting instant help from the transfers from 4-year schools, like Nico Russolillo.
-In a perfect world, it is always great to redshirt the true freshmen, particularly on the offensive line. I would suppose that will hold true for Jackson Andrews and Cohen Carpenter.
Out of the list above, ACU needs to find 10-12 players who can gain the confidence of the coaches. Since our first 2 home games are against patsies (D-III Lousiana College, who can play because they are moving up to D-2, and D-2 UT-Permian Basin), we can see a lot of players get playing time and the freshmen can still redshirt. It will be interesting to see who makes the travel team against a really solid SMU team.

Lousiana College is actually moving to NAIA, not up to NCAA D2. Last year they were in the same conference as HSU and McMurry. They were 2-3 with one of their losses to McMurry. They didn't play HSU.

Bucfan, thanks for picking up my mistake. I should have checked before posting off the top of my head. Playing a NAIA school is even worse -- NAIA allows 24 scholarships to D-2's 36 scholarships. And, as rising school from D-III, Louisiana College will no doubt have far fewer scholarships than the limit. LA College will be joining the Sooner Athletic Conference -- made up of SW Assemblies of God; Arizona Christian (ACU lite); Ottawa U of AZ; OK Panhandle; Wayland Baptist; TX Wesleyan; Langston, Lyon (AR), and Texas College. If the LSC loses anyone else to a possible climb to D-1 (WTAMU or TAMU-C), the conference might have to raid some football playing schools from the woeful SAC to keep an auto bid.

I agree that Louisiana College moving NAIA is even worse than D2. NOT impressed that they are the best we could find to play.

He is extremely athletic. Just because he didn’t play much at UT does not mean he is not a quality addition to ACU. This could be the best recruit ACU has gotten since Danieal Manning or Tony Washington.

I think the key is whether he is healthy or not. Injuries not talent curtailed his playing at UT. But you're right Jamin, he's one of the highest-rated athletes to ever play for ACU.

Couple of OL observations from spring game .... Guys recruited out of high school with 3 or 4 years remaining: Mitch Melrose, Ty Smith and Wyatt Tate all played tackle in the spring game. Melrose is really good and a lot bigger. Can he stay healthy? Ty Smith is going to be something special. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Gives a 6’6 300# option at guard also. Very aggressive. I like Tate at right tackle. Very strong. Can also be a big, big guard if necessary. 300# 6’5 Another BIG redshirt freshman is Hayden Burke. Listed at 280. Actual 305. Big frame guy whose weight is well distributed. Also will be special, IMO.
Of the transfers, I like Reese, Knox and Marshall a lot. Zach Terry played guard exclusively in the spring game. Looked much more comfortable there than tackle.
If these guys stay around, they are going to be very, very good. So how many can get in the rotation now and which older guys can take leadership roles. I’m more positive about this group than I’ve been in a while. Now can we coach them?

Is the "transfer portal" camp open to observers? Will there be a "report" on players who tryout? If we offer or get commitments might the later camp next week be cancelled? Since the football staff advertised this camp on social media, will they report on the effectiveness of this effort (finding players) to those who follw ACU football?

I do like the looks of the Temple kid that visited today. Just curious but who was the Temple kid? I'm basically from Temple so I might be able to tell y'all a little about him. Also I'm a TXST fan and look forward to seeing how our transfers Anthony Smith and John Brannon do for y'all!
