Diamond in the rough--WR Jack Frazier from Kerrville Tivy, 6'2" 185 PWO. Not particularly fast at 4.58 40 but has a quick 1st step and catches well in traffic.

no seniors on the OL... a bit worrisome. In fact almost no seniors at all. Who do you think will be the leaders? I assume Mansell and Dobbins are naturals but I just don't know the anchors otherwise.

The sheer number of new players on the OL fascinates me. Don't know if any will be world beaters but it sure appears that a few might be. The fact that we have so many with 3 or 4 years of eligibility left says to me that we are building not only depth for right now but for our future. 7 of the 8 new guys (so far) are either Fr or Sophs in eligibility (Reese Moore the exception) and add them to Burke-Fr, Howerton-Fr, Smith-Fr, Knox-soph, Girty-soph, Tate-RSFr then you have 13 OL with at least 3 more years to play. Maybe if we can find a couple of starters from the new guys, then Thielan can move back to DT where there seems to be more of a need right now. That would be predicated on some of these new guys being starters like Reece Moore and Bronson Warner. I'd not be surprised to see Ty Smith work his way to the top and maybe Fr Jax Andrews will surprise. Some other solid, if not great, guys coming back to plug holes and wait for the young players to develop (Melrose, Marshall, Parker and Terry). A position of need is being addressed. I'm hoping we aren't still looking for OL because we are losing some from the roster that we don't know about yet.

Derek Simmons (OL-6'5" 320) continues to catch my eye with his tweets to our new recruits. Seems he is following every one who commits to us. Don't know if he can play but it looks like he's got some leadership skills. Here's hoping his work ethic matches his social media presence. I'm pulling for this young man.

Marshall- Jr Ty Smith- Fr Girty- Soph J. Andrews Fr R. Moore JrThielen RFr D. Simmons Fr A few tweaks to this list: -Denver Holman is still a walkon kid at WR, but he was targeted a lot in the spring scrimmage. Could he fight his way into the WR rotation this year? He is also Mansell's bro-in-law -There are some other walkons who were on the spring roster, although I don't know if any of them showed enough in the spring to ever get to report to August practices: Chester Sims at FB, Zachary Blair at WR, and Jadon Lewis at RB -Then, there has been the staggering number of transfer O-linemen added over the past few weeks, who can be added to Moore and Simmons who already appear on the above list: Kaleb Chester (So-Tr, Lenoir Rhyne); Allan Hatten (So-Tr) and Collin James (Fr-Tr), the transfers from Lackawanna; and Bronson Warner (So-Tr, Iowa Western). I still wonder if there will be any summertime defections among the returnees. I am like Bogey in thinking that Thielen might be able to return to the defensive side of the ball to bring more depth to the DT position. Still, there could be as many as 18 o-linemen reporting in August -- Coach Dorrel should be very happy with that!

I think I am more enthused with our offensive potential than I've been in a long time. We are solid, if not, very good, at QB. I'm supposing Mansell will get the starting nod but I was really impressed with Earle last year and Anderson looks to me to have lots of potential. RB is deeper than we've been in years. If Dobbins is able to fight thru the "sophomore jinx" that hits many RB's and Ant Smith is the real deal with White and McKnight we have a good looking 4-some. Anything that Walton and Lewis add would be gravy. Wide receiver is an interesting mix. Clark is solid if not spectacular. Lewis got lots of experience last year. Neese is getting lots of hype and could be solid. Some of you guys were really high on what you saw in the spring from Holman. Williams has worked his way to a scholarship and had some moments last fall as did Johnson. Blaylock, Spadone and Jimmerson could contribute. I've looked at HUDL films of our two scholarship freshmen (Cole and Bowman) and still think that PWO Frazier is the better receiver but maybe one of these guys can come to the front. A solid--very solid group of receivers. At TE--moving Lutz back to TE will be a plus (on the receiving side) None of the others have any experience, so someone needs to step up. I'd think Miles will play a lot with Stafford, Caldwell and Stripling adding to the mix. I really want to see Colt Cooper in action (wants to be the best TE ever at ACU). I'm hoping he has the talent to be just that. We have upgraded our OL--in depth and quality, methinks. Getting the right combos on the field may take a little time but we surely have numbers to choose from. I hope Reece Moore is everything his 4star rating deserves. Jax Andrews may be our new Dakota Laws, earning a starting job as a first year player. Transfers Simmons and Warner (maybe others) may push for playing time and a starting position. Knox, Tate, Parker, Melrose and Terry have experience and may be coming into their own. Smith, Burke, Howerton, Girty have a year under their belt (really excited about what Ty Smith could bring to the table) so we ought to see some contributions from them. This is a deep position now and if the quality matches the quantity we will be good here for years. Potential is just that until proven to be true or false. Right now we have potential on the offensive side of the ball. Our poor season last year (and in the previous 4) makes me very leary to predict success for this team. Seems it's always something that prevents us from being successful. I'm hoping this is our "breakout" year and from now on we just "reload".

A little off topic, but with Sidney Holman-Mansell's husband and brother both being at ACU I wonder if there is any possibility she would return to pitch? There has been a change in coaching since she was here and she didn't pitch a lot at Baylor last year. She could sure help ACU's softball team. There may be too much bitter taste with ACU athletics about her leaving the first time though.

She still has a strong strikeout rate (almost 1 an inning), but she also has a high base on ball rate (more than 50% of her strikeout rate).

I see on the softball page that my question has been answered. And in a positive way! I think Sidney will be a huge addition to the softball team.

We needed pitching in the worst way. With incoming pitcher 1st year student Hannah Benavides and Holman we may be getting a needed upgrade.

Not sure we need to do this on this page (top of page 3) but it would be nice to include all the signees with our holdovers as we proceed. Some on this board may be able to share their knowledge of some on the list above who may not be coming back. We signed so many players that I continue to fear, some we think are on this fall's team, may not be here anymore. Just a thought.

Not sure which thread to put this: have any Catchatters heard anything about when fall practice begins? I was doing a little checking on the dates from 2019 (the last year of normalcy) and it is very hard at nailing down when fall practice started that year. There were Wildcat Kickoff events that was held on July 28-29 that year, but apparently those events have been deep-sixed. In 2019, there wasn't a press release that was tied directly to the starting date of the fall practice. The previous coaching staff would typically post a press release on reporting day, but I could not find one for 2019.
