Ok, I'm going to start this a little early. We have enough game notes to go by to see what type of team we are. We aren't a flashy, high scoring team. We are a physical team that plays lights out defense to the point that it can effect our offense at times. We don't have players that really stand out, we are a team. Playing as a team, is how we win, depending on each player. Opponents have to figure out how to beat us as a team. They have to double team us, harass our shooters and pressure us all game long. With all of that said, how will we fare against the Bearkats on Wed.?
They are playing VERY well right now and they are scoring better than us. We have played a few common opponents: Texas Tech 51 vs ACU 44, Texas Tech 84 vs SH 52; HPU 51 vs ACU 84, HPU 54 vs SH 117; DCU 44 vs ACU 82, DCU 42 vs SH 117. Against lower ranked teams, SH is holding them to similar scores while out-scoring them to much larger margins. Against the higher ranked TT, SH didn't hold them to as low a score as us but still scored more on them than we did.
If we stand a chance of winning, we are going to have to put together a complete game. Can we fire on all cylinders both defensively and offensively for both halves? If they shut us down from behind the arch, will our inside game and FTs hold up? As of yesterday, Sagarin still had us at #132, with a DI record of 7-2. They had SH at #179 with a DI record of 7-5. They still have the better undefeated conference record. I am saying this game can go either way.

We should be 6-8 point favorites but will have to play well to win. P

A couple of notes:
1. The Bearkats present a strong backcourt with Zach Nutall (6-3 185, All-Southland last year, 20 points per game, 43% from 3) and Demarkus Lampley (6'2 170, 14.8 points, 43% from 3). They may start other guards as well like Javion May (6'2 190), a transfer in from Colby Community College in Kansas, and Donte Powers 6'2 180, a transfer in from East Mississipi Community College. At least that's what they've been doing for weeks now in conference games. I would expect quick hands and up-and-down play.
2. Though Sam has some size, two players listed at 6'10, this is not a particularly big team. In their last game against Lamar, Nutall had 10 boards.

Sam is very, very good. In fact, I think they are the best team in the conference. Nutall is the top scorer in the conference and Lampley sits at 8th.
As has been mentioned, we are bigger and much better inside than they are. Miller, Daniels and Mason have to be ready to defend and they have to stay out of foul trouble. If we dominate inside, and hold their 2 guards to 40 points or less, I think we can win

I do think our inside game will be key against SH. If we can connect from the outside great, but they are going to be trying everything to disrupt us. I hope we can remain physical without getting into foul trouble.

Today's updated College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 has us at #12 and SH at #19. I think that is a very small gap and not sure if it's indicative of Wed. I am still hoping that the guys come out on a whole other level. To even be able to list stats that include us is taking getting used to though. collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25

Noticed SHSU's last game was against Houston Baptist on 1-16-2021 and Nutall scored 33 points in a nice win. He must be a real horse. Surely our tough defense will slow him down a bit.

I think we will slow them down as a whole. My concern is that our offense still stays on track and we don't get into foul trouble.

I think we will slow them down as a whole. My concern is that our offense still stays on track and we don't get into foul trouble. Bingo... the game may be very affected by the referees. Some officials call charging and some call a blocking foul on the same kind of event. And it is upsetting when a ref calls a foul thinking our defensive player is standing inside the circle under the basket that is reserved for the offensive flow. We have gotten some bad calls when our defensive player was just outside that circle but was called for being inside it. If we can play defense and stay out of foul trouble then we can beat any team in the Southland.

Appears Mason is not starting, but neither is Lampley for Sam. Have to wonder if Mason is still hurting from his hard fall on Saturday

Is now. Apparently, ESPN broadcast began as scheduled @ 8:30, even though game started 30 minutes after women’s game.
