I went to the SH athletic site and clicked watch and you have to sign in as it is "premium content"......

Is now. Apparently, ESPN broadcast began as scheduled @ 8:30, even though game started 30 minutes after women’s game. Scratch that. After telling me it was beginning at 8:30, no longer appears as an option. Presuming SHSU’s equipment failed.

I don’t think Coryon was the only difference. I didn’t get to watch but just followed along...if you give up that many points to the two guys you know you have to stop, then somewhere we just got beat. Second half was better but could never shoot well enough to close the gap. Our three point shooting seems to be our Achilles along with the free throws.

Some observations: Kolton Kohl is our best inside scorer but only played 19 minutes. He's not the most mobile player and doesn't have particularly good hands but...he's 7' tall and generally has 3-4 inches on his opponent and is getting better and better around the bucket getting off a variety of shots. He was 6-8 shooting, only charged with 2 TO's but again only played 19 minutes. Clay Gayman is our best outside shooter (Golding has said this time and again; not worried about Clay getting points) but only plays 17 minutes. He had a horrible shooting game vs Sam but as his minutes decrease (and his defense gets better) his production is going down. My opinion and mine only is that Kohl and Gayman need to be on the floor more for us to be better offensively. Daniels is a pesky defender, quick with the ball but a so-so shooter and is only 5"7". Why does he need to be on the floor with Miller and Mason? Miller brings the ball up the floor 80% of the time. From what I'm seeing now with this team, Gayman needs to be starting and playing 25 minutes per game. 6'6" over 5'7" and a better shooter and defender of taller guys. I'd bring Daniels and...Pleasant off the bench, with Simmons starting in his place. Simmons showed what he can do last night and with Kohl and Gayman on the floor with him, I believe good things would happen. Manny Allen and Mahki Morris are quality players and deserve major minutes too--15 per night. Sporadically, McLaughlin, Steele and Richardson. Something needs to jump start this offense. A change of lineup might do the trick for several reasons.

A couple of more observations: I was very impressed with Jameson Richardson last game. I know it was against an overmatched opponent and we were 30+ points ahead when he played. He moves well on the court and seems to have good court awareness. In his 8 minutes he scored 7 points, had 2 rebounds and didn't get pushed around in the paint. He has a good outside shot, so if he was on the floor a bit more with Pleasant or Kohl, I think we'd be surprised at what he can do. Tobias Cameron--not a good scorer but adequate. What he brings to the floor is tenacity. He causes turnovers, takes charges, and fights under the basket. He sometimes plays out of control and gets lost on the offensive end but his energy is always high. If I had 2-3 scorers on the floor (like Mason, Gayman, and Kohl) I'd have no problem with giving Cameron more minutes to create havoc. Last observation: We need to learn how to feed Kohl in the paint. We have too many possessions where we lose the ball on feeds to the big man. Kohl can't move as well side to side but he can get a lob. Let him use his height under the bucket to score. I'm thrilled with our defense but as we learned last night (and against Texas Tech) basketball is played on both ends of the floor.

I was very disappointed that I could not watch the game on ESPN+ I listened, but the game was over about 8 or 9 minutes into the contest because we never showed the ability to rally to the point of a serious contender. When you don't shut down one or two guys and force a shift to their lesser players, it is going to be hard to compete. We did seem to do that better later in the game and, sure enough, we got within two, but that sounded like it would be short term. We do seem to substitute so much that it is hard for shooters to get into a groove. You can miss a couple in a row but then that can also serve to create the adjustments that lead to hitting a streak of shots. Otherwise it is hard to get zeroed in. I understand substituting for defensive lapses that are reoccurring, but shooting needs time for adjustment and continuity. So I too would like to see more of our scoring potential get more time on the floor. When you are not making shots that you normally would, the better players are going to be making real time adjustments and get hot most likely. Sitting on the bench does not typically do that. I would rather get beat with our best on the floor in hope they create a rally by getting hot. I don't understand how a college level player might be too tired playing less than half a game.
We have a good team and they are well coached in the new style of basketball, I just want to see our best athletes take on the challenge of leading big runs.

Really missed Coryon Mason tonight. Probably the understatement of the whole game. Mason does a lot of things well and surely deserves more accolades.
