Stapp continues to pick up offers with the two latest being Louisville and Northwestern.

There are several who have hit the portal who I hate to lose, but the foremost one is Stapp.

Now that we have a coach, maybe he can pull a few players back from the portal.

Did I see Lakendrick Jones in the portal too or was it Dre Jones?

I don't understand why Stone Earle decided to put his name in the transfer portal, does he think he might not be the starter next year. Is Patterson bringing someone with him at quarterback. First Anderson and then Earle this week.

Roughly 255 FBS and FCS teams in college football. Already 2100 players in the portal. This is a mess.

Roughly 255 FBS and FCS teams in college football. Already 2100 players in the portal. This is a mess. While the NCAA legislation appears on the “Stone Earle” stream, I’ll make my observation here. In the midst of the current state of college athletics, but, especially, within the context of a coaching change, the entire 2021 roster eligible for 2022 must be RE-recruited. That process began with KP’s one-on-one’s referenced in his presser, and will continue until next Thursday, at least. Therefore, can’t blame the players for keeping options open at their sole discretion as that particular option gone after Dec. 15th. While the staff that brought them here has most certainly changed, hopefully, they’ve learned during their time here to date the “ACU difference”. If that doesn’t keep them here, at least for those that haven’t graduated and, therefore, have the opportunity for grad school (e.g. Kade Parmelly), shame on us. Meanwhile, KP has lived in this world, and, therefore, experienced it’s evolution, for +\- 30 years, so, I trust him to navigate it on our behalf. Likewise, if I’m counting on him to “sell” yet-to-be-on-campus athletes on ACU, I trust him on the re-recruiting and staffing pieces, especially, given he’s not been on the job 48 hours. The only difference between now and when Wally Bullington was hired is technology. So, let’s not go losing our stuff simply because we “know” more as we are a people of faith. Hebrews 11:1

I saw that only 2 FBS schools have not had anyone enter the portal. The surprising thing is that Texas Tech is one of the 2. They made their coaching change during the season (former Coach Wells was at the ACU press conference in support of Coach Patterson) and the new coach there has done a great job of holding onto players. Let's hope that with Coach Patterson on board we see the re-recruiting of key players start in earnest! I do think that Ryan Stapp has far too many offers to think there is any chance of hanging onto him, but some of the other key players could still change their minds.
Another interested stat I saw -- when the portal was showing a little over 1,000 players who had entered the portal from FBS and FCS schools, only 28% of them had received offers. With the portal now glutted with over 2,100 players, I have to think the raw number of players who receive offers will go up, but the percentage may stay close to the same.

This brings up an interesting question that I had not thought about. If an athlete enters the portal and receives no other offers, are they at a greater risk of losing their scholarship at their current school? Maybe if entering the transfer portal essentially released an athlete and current school from their current relationship, less athletes would test the waters.

I think it is up to the school. Most places will honor the scholarship for the semester if the player enters after the semester begins, but it is not guaranteed. Once a player enters, the scholarship can be dropped.

I agree that many of these players entering the portal will not get picked up by a new team. The best players will have more flexibility both some will end up sticking with the team they are on. I talked to one of the players relative to Stone Earle entering the portal, and he believes Coach Patterson will be bringing in other quarterbacks and Stone wants to be sure he is a starter for the team he plays for next year. I hope Coach Patterson is able to keep most of the players here next season or is at least able to bring in new guys to replace those that we lose.

There is no doubt players entering the portal may end up losing their ACU scholarship for next season if they change their mind or do not get picked up by another team.

I talked to one backup player earlier this week. Asked him what he thought about the changes. He is in the portal but he is certain that his scholarship won’t be renewed. Don’t know exactly why he believes that but it seems not everyone’s reasons are the same.
