Annecdotal. I once asked the RB's coach why Lindsey didn't play his freshman year. Answer--he was their best QB but was behind a senior and the HC thought him too short to be effective (5'10" as I recall).

Just FYI, I would assume you'd see our true Freshman QB, Preston Stone play in this one as well. He's a 4 Star recruit as well. Don't you guys have a QB that transferred from Iowa? We do and I'm sure he will play as well but Stone beat him in fall camp

It's nice to hear Dorrel sound like he is enjoying coaching again. Last year, between Covid cancellations and inconsistent play, he often sounded pretty beaten down to me.

What Jim had was good pocket presence and a cannon arm. He never was a big threat to take off and run, although he was one of those guys who was "sneaky fast". The thing that reminds me of Jim in Stone is that blend of humility, yet a quite confidence in his abilities. If the game was tight at the end, Jim was always confident that he could pull it out of the fire -- not in a desperate way, but he always thought he could get it done. I see some of that in Stone as well. The other things Jim had were Ronnie Vinson and Pat Holder. It was really thrilling to watch Ronnie Vinson on the out routes. Lindsey would throw before the break, Ronnie would turn and go way up for the catch but then came the amazing thing -- he was all knees and elbows coming down on the D-back. I don't think any of them wanted to tackle Ronnie Vinson. He punished the tackler more than the tackler punished him. Pat Holder was truly evasive and a great shifty and fast runner, both as a receiver and as a return man. The tight end was really dependable. Those were surely fun days. Jim Lindsey was truly amazing because he had all the passing skills. His arc matched the demands of the route and defense. He could drop it in or fire in quickly. He played to the situation he encountered where too many QBs just fire the ball the same way every time, and not optimized for the situation.

Was hoping for game notes or a two deep but who am I kidding with that.

Clint Longley throwing to Reggie Hunter (?), Richard Williams and Greg Stirman, when he wasn’t having to College HOFer Wilbert Montgomery, wasn’t too shabby an outfit either. Bottom line, Shotwell saw the Wildcats sling it!

Another important transfer for SMU is Grant Calcaterra. Played TE for OU (All B!2 1st team in 2018). Resigned due to concussion but a year later decided to transfer to SMU.

I have no way of knowing nor judging, but, I had a very knowledgeable really good football player and successful former head coach in both high school and college, who has seen every ACU QB since the 1960s tell me that Stone Earle has the potential to be the best QB that ACU has EVER had. Would love to see that happen.

Among the weapons that SMU has, this guy is at the top of the list when it comes to matchup headaches. He’s big, strong, athletic, and has great hands.

Would love to see that happen. That’s really high praise. I don’t have the knowledge that most of you all and your coach friend, but from what I saw against UVA last year and the scrimmage last week, he reminded me of some good QBs over the last 20 years.

There is a depth chart in the "Game Program" on-line and it would appear to be accurate:
QB - Stone Earle; Peyton Mansell
RB - Jermiah Dobbins; Tyrese White
FB - Rece Stafford; Charlie Moore (only true freshman to break into the 2-deep is a walkon kid!)
WR-X - Alex Spadone; Dax Neece
WR-H - Darius Clark; Davion Johnson
WR-Z - Kobe Lewis; Jordan Brooks-Wess
TE - Remington Lutz; Grant Miles
LT - Reese Moore; Dylan Howerton
LG - Truett Knox; Alan Hatten
C - Collin James; Peyton Girty
RG - Jacob Thielen; Bronson Warner (Jacob goes from backup DT to starting OL in one off-season -- very impressive)
RT - Derek Simmons; Wyatt Tate
DE - Garveia Freeny; Osaretin Obadeyi
DE - Jordan Paup; Kadron Johnson
DT - Will Morgan; Dre Jones
DT - Quent Titre; Jack Schultz
MLB - Hunter Kier; Chike Nwankwo
OLB - Greg Green; John Brannon
OLB - Tory Hargrove; Trey Adams
CB - Ryan Stapp; Ira Branch
CB - Triston Anderson; Roland Williams
FS - Bryan Bullock; Koy Richadson
SS - Elijah Moffett; Koy Richardson (safety is the only place that has 1 backup for both spots)
Punter - Logan/Will Fargason
Kicker - Blair Zepeda; Oscar Hernandez
Snapper - David Stone; Dustin Inness
Holder - Logan Burke; Kobe Clark
Returners - Jordan Brooks-Wess; Kobe Clark; Ryan Stapp; Darius Lewis
Lots of spots filled by transfers -- both transfers who were on the roster last fall and transfers in their first year on the roster. Kobe Clark is on the 2-deep everywhere.

I’m assuming you mean Kobe Clark, not Kobe Lewis.
