I think it is a perfect time for a bye in the football season. With Peyton Mansell taking over the starting quarterback position after Stone Earle's unfortunate leg injury, Peyton can use an extra week to work on the passing game. Peyton has been great as a runner so far this year, but has not had to throw the ball much. Now that Peyton will have to act as the "passing quarterback", opposing teams will not be able to key on the run when Peyton is in the game.
I am an optimist and still believe that ACU has a chance for a winning season, although I know it will be difficult especially with ACU playing their next two games on the road against Stephen F Austin and Jacksonville St.
I think ACU will beat Tarleton St and lose to Sam Houston, so we need to win one of these next two games in order to reach 6-5 which would be a very successful season to me.

I agree that it is a good time for the bye week. The players need some rest and it will help Peyton to be ready for the remainder of the season. I don't necessarily see ACU running the same offense with Peyton though. We already saw ACU change tactics some when he came into the game and Dorrel stated that they had to change plays after Stone's injury.

Up untill this point in the season, when Mansell was quarterbacking, he was much more likely to run the ball than to pass. Earle did run some himself but he was much more likely to pass or handoff to another runningback. Going forward, I still think Mansell will run the ball much more than Earle did because running is Mansell's strength. However, Mansell will have to pass in long yardage situations.

I would be a bit more conservative with Mansell running so much. If he is injured, we will have to go with no experience at QB. We have a good freshman but don't think he has played yet. He might lose a year if forced into the line up. I am not sure of the redshirt rules. One thing I notice is the AV coverage of the Tarleton camera crew. They have more angles and you see a lot more. Not sure the Wildcats have a camera on the east side or from the end zones. It is their homecoming and the crowd looks surprisingly large. I guess Tarleton is not the little school I used to know.

Actually, with the 4 game redshirt rule, Hayden Anderson can play in all four of the remaining games and not lose a year. I hope the coaches can find some snaps for him if Stone is done for the year.

I think it would be a good idea to let Hayden get a little playing time in the next four games. If we get a good lead or we fall behind in a game, letting him play a few series will help in his development going forward.

According to the participation report (and according to my fast fading memory), Hayden Anderson has played in 1 game this year, the Louisiana College game. I seem to remember him going into the game late to hand off the ball a few times. That could impact the # of games that he might play down the stretch.
So, that brings up the question of which true freshmen will still redshirt this year. Some have already played over the 4 games allowed and there is no more question: Quae Walton - 6; Tyrin Bradley - 6; Landon Eades - 6, Cirby Coheley - 6.
There are still a few players who have reached the 4 game limit and who have not played the last few weeks, so they may still be held out the rest of the year: Charlie Moore and Ethan Taite.
Then, there are a few players who have played 3 or less and could still play a game or two and hang on to the redshirt: Nick Scalera - 3; Jackson Young - 2; Jax Andrews - 2; Isaiah Pedack - 2; Andrew Edwards - 1; and Luke Dillingham - 1.
Other interesting oddities:
-Neither of the deep snappers are listed as playing in this game. Did anyone notice who might have snapped on PAT's or the lone field goal?
-I have seen Anthony Egbo play in several games on special teams and the participation reports do not show him as playing at all this year. I KNOW that I have seen him play on punt teams.
Someone has come back in and cleaned up the participation report some over the past few weeks. I still don't think they are completely cleaned up and I suppose you will see someone clean up this past game, because there are lots of omissions. But, still they are gradually getting corrected.

I think Egbo has played in almost every game, that is IF he has continued to wear #39.

WAC stats.. i'm not sure if the below link will automatically show ACU in the nation rankings tab. You might need to select Abilene Christian in the (Select A Team) drop down box. For all the complaining/criticizing that goes on (me included) the ACU FB team ranks highly in many categories. Is there room for improvement...yes!! I would like to know what everyone thinks after looking at the stats and where ACU ranks on the list. Total offense ACU is ranked 2 in the WAC Total defense ACU is ranked 2 in the WAC

You have to realize that we have not played most of the top teams in the conference yet. We have also played a DIV 2 team, an NAIA team and Lamar twice. According to Massey, we still have to play the #1, #3 and #4 teams in the AQ7 in the next few weeks so these numbers are going to drop. It also looks like we are third in total defense not second (SFA is first and Sam Houston is 2nd). These ratings are only based on Sam Houston, SFA, ACU and Lamar so there are only 4 teams in the rankings. Additionally Lamar is rated 4th in total offense and 4th in total defense. So in actuality these stats are not as great looking as they may seem.

I'll venture out at the risk of being labelled negative. We've played 4 very weak teams (Lamar twice, Louisiana College and UTPB) and had a pretty good half against UCA. The meat of our schedule is yet to come SFA, Jacksonville St and Sam Houston (and Tarleton) so I believe our rankings will really take a hit unless we play much better. Also, we've lost our #1 QB which puts us behind the offensive 8-ball so to speak. I think Mansell will do as good as he possibly can with the limitations at WR that we have and our reluctance to throw to TE's. If we can really use our 4 RB's with a sprinkling of Mansell and use ball control to shorten the coming games we might just be OK but I fear our defense will continue to give up big plays, we'll get behind fast and then have to pass. If that happens both our offensive stats and defensive stats will plummet. I think we have a squad that could compete with our remaining foes but injuries have really come at the wrong time (always wrong time for injuries and always at or near the end of a long season). The return of Morgan, Lutz, and Brannon would be a help. I wouldn't expect Earle to be back. Not sure who else is injured. I'd love for kjmike1956 prediction to come true (6-5) but it will be a hard road to pull that off.

Additionally, I am hoping for a 6-5 record, I expect a 5-6 record.
