WAC stats.. i'm not sure if the below link will automatically show show ACU in the nation rankings tab. You might need to select Abilene Christian in the (Select A Team) drop down box. For all the complaining/criticizing that goes on (me included) the ACU FB team ranks highly in many categories. Is there room for improvement...yes!! I would like to know what everyone thinks after looking at the stats and where ACU ranks on the list. Total offense ACU is ranked 2 in the WAC Total defense ACU is ranked 2 in the WAC
You have to realize that we have not played most of the top teams in the conference yet. We have also played a DIV 2 team, an NAIA team and Lamar twice. According to Massey, we still have to play the #1, #3 and #4 teams in the AQ7 in the next few weeks so these numbers are going to drop. It also looks like we are third in total defense not second (SFA is first and Sam Houston is 2nd). These ratings are only based on Sam Houston, SFA, ACU and Lamar so there are only 4 teams in the rankings. Additionally Lamar is rated 4th in total offense and 4th in total defense. So in actuality these stats are not as great looking as they may seem. At this point the no team in the WAC has played all the top teams. So FCS stats are the numbers I'm working from. Please double check me here...every team in the WAC with the exception of Sam Houston has played a DII team and some have 2 on their schedule. I'm not sure any program other than ACU played a NAIA team. Sam Houston did not play a FBS team this year (they did play 3-3 Northern AZ & 2-5 SE MO). For all that point out ACU has played Lamar twice....my counter argument is Sam, SFA & Tarleton all will play Lamar and 0-6 Dixie State. Thus far ACU has held their own and been in most games. It will be interesting to see how/if the ACU offense changes with Peyton at the helm. I'm still not excited about the coaching scheme. However i like the kids attitude....so I'm going out on a limb "very thin limb" and say ACU ends the football season with a 7 -4 record. Yes we win 3 of the next 4. I would be extremely disappointed if at worst we didn't split the next 4 games...we have the talent if the coaches put the players in the correct position to be successful.

1) I still think our playing lesser teams boosted out stats some. 2) For the most part, we have made some statistical improvements above last year. I think we have allowed slightly more yards this year, but I may be off a game. 3) Over-all, those have resulted in some more wins over lesser opponents, but still not showing an ability to capitalize against equal or greater teams yet.

Bogeyman mentioned our reluctance to throw to our Tight Ends. I really don't understand why we don't take advantage of that. We don't have any super speedy receivers to be able to go long so it seems logical to use the TE more than we do. Caldwell is a big target and when they do throw to him, he seems to do a decent job of catching it. Seems like a missed opportunity for some quick yards to me.

Brain, I love your enthusiasm and optimism. We definitely have a chance in all the games left on our schedule. Texas A&M was unranked when they beat Alabama earlier this month, when they were not given much of a chance.

Watching the Tarleton vs Midwestern game give me a bit of concern. Tarleton's O line averages 305 pounds and their D line and linebackers look quite strong. Our 8 plays likely will not work against them since they look like they have little trouble with running wide or up the middle. Midwestern is not a very tough opponent but they are a winning team. I guess we shall see how the game plays out. Maybe Midwestern is just starting slowly. [edit: in the third, the game is a 7-7 tie. Midwestern's 5-1 record in D2 is likely pretty accurate]

I wanna see how we handle SFA first. It won't be easy. Dixie State is fighting hard, but SFA can still score fast and is up 27-10. Every time that Dixie gets any momentum, SFA takes it away. That will be the challenge for us.
