What surprises me most besides UTSA is that Texas is not one if the four ranked teams. Baylor is another surprise, they were 2-7 last year. I thought about mentioning Texas but decided against it. RC roots for the Horns and I didn’t want to upset him. I don’t mind insulting “tude though. He’s an OU guy and deserves a good poke. We sure don’t want to hurt RC’s feelings. He will take his nuclear reactor and go home. Horns in 2021: Gave up more points to OU than they scored against ACU.

Speaking of Baylor….does LSU look at Dave Aranda for their coaching job?I hear that Mel Tucker, Michigan St head coach is the frontrunner. LSU has a new African American president William Tate and I believe he might want to hire LSU's first African American football coach. Aranda is definitely a possibility, however.

No worry. I have tended to drift away from the horns as the years go by. Yea, there were committees, giving seminars and boards and such, but increasingly it is becoming all about ACU. It is so much easier to be a Wildcat. Besides, ACU is gaining academic recognition at a rapid rate. I guess you could say I am very proud to be a Wildcat. BTW, I enjoy seeing UT students on campus doing research here. Same for Aggies and Georgia Techsters (and there are others.)

Random thought #1. If you had told me before the season that 4 Texas FBS teams would be in the top 25 at this point in the season I would have found that believable. If you had told me UTSA would be one of them I would have laughed at you. Jeff Traylor has done an amazing job of turning that program around. I wouldn’t have laughed if you had mentioned SMU though. Sonny Dykes has been building a powerhouse at SMU for several years now. Jeff Traylor will be named Tech’s new HC by Thanksgiving. Impressive foresight. I don’t know about the Traylor hire though. amp.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mac-engel/article255267471.html?__twitter_impression=true

Traylor’s conventional wisdom. If Tech wants to stay relevant nationally, they go after Briles and Leach, and accept either. Otherwise, they need to join the Mountain West, and dominate!

If I were a betting man, I would put up a significant sum of $$$ that the next head coach at Texas Tech will have the first name Sonny. I don’t think they should measure Saturday’s game against the Sooners as whether to decide if Cumbie is not the right guy. It seemed like his players liked playing for him and they played hard. Caleb Williams and the Sooners are really good. Also, if Sonny Dykes wanted the job, it would be his. But mostly, my argument is that Tech will be very unwise to hire Traylor from UTSA at this point conches just signed a 10 year, $28 MM extension. I haven’t looked at all of the buyout details, but combined with the Wells buyout, that would be more money than 95% of football programs should afford.

Traylor becomes the highest paid coach at a G5 school. Plus he gets a larger salary pool for coaches and additional support staff. Sweet deal. www.expressnews.com/sports/colleges/utsa/article/UTSA-Jeff-Traylor-contract-extension-16579400.php

Coaches have to love having their name floated around for open jobs. Usually means a nice raise without having to move!

I think Texas Tech hires Kendall Briles and gets dad to be analyst/assistant/whatever you want to call it to get dad on campus without having too much backfiring going on from the past endeavor(s).
