After legendary coaches like Bennie Owen, Bud Wilkinson, Barry Switzer and Bob Stoops defined OU as a “destination job”, Lincoln Riley turns out to be much more like Chuck Fairbanks in that Norman turns out to be a mere “facilitating stop”. At the end of the day, LR appears to believe it will be easier to get to the CFB from LA, especially given he’s trading the “big league” SEC for the comparatively pedestrian PAC-12. Regardless, the Sooners have the be feeling part awkward/part steamed by this sudden and surprising turn of events. Hook ‘em Horns!!!!

The Sooners don't have enough firepower to be in the top 3 in the SEC, but with 1 strong recruiting class, USC might be be in the national playoffs. As much as I like what the Ducks have done, their hold on the PAC 12 is tenuous at best. |

Oklahoma's beat writer Tramel made a similar point to JCat's. Lincoln can go to USC and replicate what he has at OU, AND have an easier path to the FCS playoffs rather than jumping into the 'den of vipers' that is the SEC.
