Stone Earle entering the portal is really disappointing. I really liked his dad. I guess that they all have to do what they think is best for them. Being a student at, and getting an education from, ACU does not seem very important to a lot of our football recruits/players. The transfer portal may be destroying college football at the FCS level, we shall see. Will FCS become nothing but the minor leagues for the FBS schools? Will every good player leave for greener pastures? For me, it is not very interesting or exciting to just root for a purple jersey. Making donations, buying season tickets, and driving three hours to home games becomes less and less attractive for me. I hope that others may feel differently. We already have way too many empty seats in section 206 (and others) at all of the games with the possible exception of homecoming.

This was the tweet I was hoping wouldn't come, but I wish him the best whether he stays or goes. We all knew players would transfer and it is zero reason not to start over with a new staff. That is college football and it was time for a change. Firing coaches and starting over is the norm, not the exception for better or worse. It's not insanity, it's business. I am glad players like Dorrel, so do we. That has nothing to do with his lack of success on the field.

It took basketball quite awhile to get where they have gotten to, but there is steady progression once we hit the D1 ranks. That is what we hope for. With the transfer rules as they are and the players we are losing, we are in a complete reset of the program. The next few years will likely be rough, but we need to bring in a few players who wanted to build a foundation of success. Guys that believe in a vision made clear by Coach Patterson. I am curious to see who Patterson can attract here from the portal in the first year, especially with all the scholarships that will be open and not wanting to have all the money in a large freshman class. Hopefully we get some players. Regardless, the transition will take some time. I included the ACU year to year basketball records to remind us how long it took basketball to turn around. It is a different sport, and they were in a much different spot, but I included it to remind us of how long it can take to flip things around.
ACU basketball record from 2011 to now:
2011/2012: 12-16 12/13: 12-14 13/14: 11-20 14/15: 10-21 15/16: 13-18 16/17: 13-16 17/18: 16-16 18/19: 27-7 19/20: 20-11 20/21: 24-5

I want them to be committed to something bigger than a year or two of success on an artificial field. That is the decisions of these players though, to chase the greener field or their perfect match coach. It's the name of the game for most nowadays. I wanted to root for more than a jersey and that's why I fought Dorrel on his games and his secrecy, but that was also the reality we face. I will still root for the Purple and WHite regardless and I hope more will. I really liked Stones dad and looked forward to Stone maturing here. If that's not meant to be then may they find happiness.

Stone clearly waited around to see what the plan was for the next coach. Once ACU made their decision, then Stone made his. If it had been Riley Dodge taking the helm would he have stayed? Maybe. Not saying ACU didn't try or anything, just saying that it seems like Stone decided based on the new coach. BTW the folks I've heard from said that players were generally tired of AD and everyone in the program knew it was time for a change.

He'd be crazy not to. His uncle's tweet about him leaving makes me curious - says "@acufootball just let a great baller, teammate, and person exit!"

Lamberson’s Twitter account no longer has any ACU references on his bio. I wonder if Stone wanted to see if any assistants were retained and based his decision on that. He could’ve asked KP directly who was and wasn’t staying and KP let him know. I keep reminding myself that a player can return to the school after entering the portal.

There are over 2100 players in the football transfer portal. There's a huge freshman recruiting class that really hasn't been seen by coaches because of COVID.
I'm hopeful that our staff can hit the ground running.

The table was set for Stone Earle. I am stunned he would enter the portal. He clearly should reconsider.

I would love to know how the players felt about the direction of the program. Please anyone feel free to share if they know. The thing about that is some guys are going to say they aren’t happy about the change and some are going to say they are thrilled for it. 100% should say the results weren’t there though. Although dorrel struggled to win at times, he did help with the relationships and overall attitude of the team. A lot of the players had solid relationships with this younger staff and wanted to keep playing for them, That’s why I think a lot of these players are leaving ACU, would you blame them? Sad to see stone Earle leave, really thought he had a bright future at ACU. I hope we can get to hiring a new staff quick to so these players can start building those relationships again and also so that we can have players to have a competitive spring!

His uncle is an ultra support of his family which I think should be admired. I am worried though for Women’s basketball if Bella doesn’t get playing time that he thinks she deserves if he will start being even more vocal than he already is
