This team beat Boise St by holding them to 39 points. Boise is currently ranked 59 in Kenpom. Definitely a team to take seriously. Play lots of guys like we do and get contribution from everyone. Would be another good win for us at home.

Cal State Bakerfield checks in at 223 in Kenpom rankings, about 80 spots behind us. Kenpom gives us a 76% chance of winning compared to 85.1% from ESPN. Kenpom has the final score prediction set at 68-60 which matches ESPN's 8 point favorite of us

Boise State is the most similar team to us defensively that CSB has faced. We are 5th in the nation in forcing turnovers, averaging 27.4 per game, where Boise State is 83rd, forcing 21.3 per game. In their game against Boise State though, they only had 15 Turnovers, and forcing 14 on Boise State.
They are one of the slowest tempo teams in college basketball, going deep into the shot clock with each possession on a regular basis. They are in the lower quarter for 3 point attempts in college basketball, but they take good 3 point looks shooting a solid 36.9% from deep on the year, which is 51st in the nation. With how quickly our defense flies around and gets back into position, I'd be surprised to see them knock down 3's at the same rate.

We should win, but I agree that this could be a defensive slugfest and nothing in this game can be taken for granted. Their last 3 games has seen an improvement in their defense compared to the previous ones before that. If we can get back to our historical turnover margin and score off of those turnovers, we should be fine. If we turn the ball over like we did against Drexel, that could get probablematic.

Taste of our own medicine tonight. This is a good test for WAC play coming up. Better hope we start seeing some shots fall and keep our cool.

This game is 100% as billed -- great defense. CSB is not a great team, but they are a very athletic team. We need Airion to get hot -- I think he could be the difference maker in this one.

Good win. Hard fought. We just play good team basketball. This Bakersfield team plays hard and is athletic, only reason we win is because we play better as a team and take better care of the ball.

This is a terrific OOC win for ACU -- a really solid, athletic team in CSB. Will be similar to the teams we will see in the WAC. A game that should prepare the Wildcats for upcoming conference games.

Very impressive effort by the Wildcats. We were not hitting shots all that well but the defensive intensity was super (but it always is.) They were a bunch of tough guys as well. I am glad they did not have a really tall inside talent. This allowed us to get a few more rebounds due to hustle. A very good tune up for conference battles ahead.

Something important to point out is that we got some players a few meaningful minutes. Gai, De Dieu, Jackson, McLaughlin all played less than 11 minutes, but filled in spots solidly. The development is showing.

This was a battle from beginning to end. We kept our cool and pushed through it. I don't think we rebounded well, 31 against their 37. I kept watching them get 2nd chance baskets and staying in the game because they rebounded better. Also, horrible turnover margin AGAIN; our 20 to their 25. We can be proud that we made them turn it over 25 times, but we got sloppy again; yes, against a scrappy defense. We need to play better than we did tonight in WAC play. I don't want to play defense battles like this too many times in a season, but we need to keep learning from these scrappy teams and find ways to protect the ball better, as well as hit the glass. Most of the time, I just see our guys turn around after a shot and run back down court to set up. This may be what Tanner wants for his defense, but we are losing 2nd chance points. For now, we are still ending up on top by the end of the game, but CSU Bakersfield almost got themselves back in towards the end. It's a good thing we were hitting our FTs as well as we did. I don't mean to be negative when we are winning, but I think these are things that have to be fixed as the season gets harder.

It is amazing that CSU Bakersfield made 5 more field goals than we did but we still won by 10. Of course it helps when we outscore them 30-11 from the free throw line.
