Another thing I just remembered is KP talked about getting guys they project to develop into players. That means I think we will take size with potential over some smaller guys who may be a bit more polished. At the very least it will be a bit more of an emphasis.

It seems like we were always at a size disadvantage to other teams. Not that I just want big guys that can't play but having some size will be a welcome change.

Didn't Dorrel say after his first season that we needed more size? I hope KP can bring some in.

Since we made the jump to D1 I have thought about the challenge it must be to find and recruit at the FCS level. There is definitely an art to it, and projecting those players has to be a big part of it. Love what we have heard so far from Coach P and his staff.

Didn't Dorrel say after his first season that we needed more size? I hope KP can bring some in. Dorrel came in and had the OL lose 20-30 lbs right away, wanting them smaller and quicker. One season in D-I, and he realized that did not work. I know we aren't rehashing Dorrel here anymore... I am excited that Patterson realizes the important of size but hope he doesn't overlook talent for size alone (FBS schools can afford to do this a little more since they have so many more scholarships available).

If my math is correct, with 63 full scholarships available a team could almost go 3 deep full-rides for all offensive & defensive positions depending on the coaches emphasis. I'm not sure what the scholarship calculation/emphasis is for specialist...i don't see any way a team would consider Specialist scholarships for players other than starters. It must be hard to find players with ability (size & speed), character, able to meet ACU's academic rigors and lastly if a developmental player is not on a full ride...they need the financial bandwidth to afford $50K per year cost of ACU. It's a bunch if's, ands and buts to juggle...I tried to lay out a scholarship depth chart only to find i needed more scholarships.
I don't envy KP's scholarship dilemma. Has anyone heard KP's emphasis on player/position scholarship ratio? (for example: full ride - QB 3 deep. The roster shows 6 active QB's on the spring roster (including Sema'J.)

There is one other variable. Many recruits come to ACU who are eligible for academic scholarships. So a Presidential Scholar would have his tuition paid for by Academics and then receive a partial schollie from athletics for room, board, books etc. Typically scholarships can’t be stacked higher than tuition costs but athletes are the exception. (Basketball and Volleyball can only give full scholarships under “head count” rules.)
This is also limited by the fact that football can’t have more than 85 scholarship players.

Ha, what is a more fun challenge, try and lay out a scholarship depth chart for Division 2 with 36 scholarships....

Based on the overall 2021 Football team GPA average, I would have to assume there’s probably not very many Presidential Scholarships awarded. Now some of the other sports very well could have multiple Presidential Scholarship award winners. If I’m not mistaken most academic scholarships are for eight semesters timeframes. The covid year could play havoc on football scholarship money. If KP wants a player that is a covid fifth year senior and the player receives both academic and football scholarship money, it could definitely affect football scholarship money payout. Like I said earlier …I do not envy KP’s scholarship allocation situation. It’s a very short window for the new staff to assess current players and also bring in new players that fit whatever offensive and defensive schemes KP decides to run.
