So our final total is -3 for the tourney after Kate's score was fixed (75 instead of 77). We win by 16 strokes and finished every round with the best score. Takeaways: These girls can play!! Coach Bennett will have a challenge picking his top 5 for every tournament (a great problem to have). Delaney Martin (4 birdies, 1 eagle) and Ryann Honea (8 birdies, 1 eagle) finished like leaders should with 71's for the last day. Sydney Williams (11 birdies) was a steady scorer each day as was Manon Guile (10 birdies). Kate (11 birdies) and Jiyu (11 birdies) were inconsistently good (lots of birdies and bogeys). By my calculations, if Manon's score had counted each round we would have only been 2 shots better. The competition will be upped at Tech in 2 weeks but what a great start by this brand new team. Maybe their success will inspire the guys.

This is so great for the program. As a long term golfer, I always wanted ACU to have a ladies team, and was disappointed when we did not have a team for Billy Olson's daughter Maddie. Now we have a budding powerhouse apparently. Great start to the season, ladies.

ACU women are ranked 85th by Golfweek. We have the 230th weakest schedule but that’s because we haven’t played but one tournament ever. That, at least should change this week. Incidentally, there are 230 women’s golf programs.
The Red Raider invitational starts Monday at the Rawls course at Tech. (Par 72, 6546 yds links style course) Other teams besides ACU and Tech are Campbell, Cincinnati, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Iowa, Oklahoma City U, Princeton, UTEP and UTRGV.

I played the Rawls about a month ago. They have begun getting ready to host a NCAA regional in 2025, thus the native rough is looking very thick and tall already.

Would have liked a write up but maybe tomorrow. I'll keep up with the action from Sapphire NC but probably won't be able to post. I think both men and women will be on golfstat.

ACU women remain in 4th place at +12, 5 strokes behind Campbell and 7 strokes behind Iowa. After shooting +9 this morning, they had a fine +3 in the 2nd round. The home team Texas Tech went nuts in the afternoon round firing a -12 to lead the tournament by 16 strokes.
Delaney had a +3 in the afternoon and is tied for 6th at -1.
A good 3rd round tomorrow could put us in 2nd or 3rd but unlikely to catch the Red Raiders.

As the 3rd round gets started, the Wildcats are -3 on the day. They are now in 3rd, 6 strokes behind Iowa and 6 strokes ahead of Campbell. Were it not for having to count a quintuple bogey (10 on a par 5) in round 1, We would be in a very close race with Iowa for 2nd. Hopefully, they will stay hot and pass Iowa anyway.

With the team completing their first nine holes, they are even par for the day and +14 for the tournament still six strokes behind Iowa and 5 strokes ahead of UTEP. Need some birdies now. They mostly finish on the front nine which is a good thing.
The Wildcats are second in the tournament for birdies with 35, 27 of which were on the front nine. So hopefully that trend will continue as the day wears on.
As I am writing this, we have slipped to +16 and are now 4 shots up on UTEP and 8 shots down to Iowa.

Despite a really good start, our women golfers faded back to 4th place overall. They started the day in 4th 4 shots behind Campbell and ended the day in 4th, 2 shots behind Campbell. 2 birdies, a double bogey and 3 bogeys on the last couple holes kept us out of 3rd.
Delaney Martin tied for 3rd in the individual standings at -4. Ryann Honea finished tied for 12th at +3.
Two telling stats: We were 2nd in birdies only behind winners Texas Tech. We were 7th in par 5 scoring giving up 10 strokes to Campbell and 7 strokes to Iowa. We were 1st in par 3 scoring and 3rd in par 4 scoring. It should be noted that the two 10s were both on par 5s.
All in all, a good tournament for our fledgling team. Better competition and more difficult course than the first tournament.

Another good test coming up for our ladies team. Next week they play at the Dale McNamara Invitational hosted by the University of Tulsa. Last year's field was a good one with 14 teams such as Nebraska, KState, BYU, Oklahoma St, South Florida, James Madison, Middle Tennessee, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston et.al. Tulsa won the tourney with a team score of +4 but at a different course than will be played this week. The new course is the Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow. Our team looks like we have Delaney Martin, Ryann Honea and Mattie Williams pretty solid in the #'s 1, 2, and 3 spots. The competition for the # 4 and # 5 spots should be fierce with Jiyu Han, Kate Pickrell and Manon Guile (our 3 first year players) fighting each week to represent the team. I'm guessing coach Bennett will continue to take all 6 to each tourney. Mattie Millwee looks to be a spoiler for the team. I know she worked hard during the summer after having been out of golf for several years. good luck to her in her quest to add depth to the team. Looking for another good finish for our 1st year team. It will be a good time to play in Oklahoma because the wind blows less in the fall (unless a front comes thru). Go Cats.

I wish they could play at Southern Hills. That would be a great experience for the team.

Cats just starting this morning in Broken Arrow. Manon Guile birdies her 1st hole and the Cats start in 1st. Big name schools in this tourney, so will be good to see how the ladies do against solid competition.
