Watching the Rangers playing the Orioles from Baltimore on TV and it is astonishing how vacant the ball park is. Bare seats everywhere. I see a lot of Ranger clothing but still very few in attendance. I wonder, is this economy impacting pro sports attendance a great deal? I have sort of lost interest in pro basketball, even though basketball is my main sport. Pro Baseball and Football come in a close second but even baseball seems less interesting -- so is this just me?

It could have something to do with the fact that Texas is 15 games behind the Astros and Baltimore is 20 games behind the Yankees in their respective Divisions... Says the guy from Houston! :-) Go Astros!

I think you are probably correct. I used to enjoy attending Astro games when Drayton McClane owned them. We were friends and his box behind home plate was situated so you could lean over and watch the radar gun. I have shared that story here before. But maybe the best part was his cook who fixed great food and desserts you could enjoy during the game. Those Astros also played golf at Lockinvar, my old club in Houston. And they caused a lot of major leaguers to play there as well, including my favorites; Smoltz and Maddux. Smoltz could really play, but the longest hitter was an older retired Astro named Jimmy Wynn. He was hugely long.
