Question for you football strategists. At the end of the first half, PV was at our 50 yard line with 6 seconds left. We put four defensive backs on the goal line. The play went to their running back who broke through the line and took a knee at the 30 with 2 seconds and called timeout and they kicked a field goal. Were we out coached on that one? What’s your opinion? That was a bad move by ACU but for Prairie View to not kick a 38 yd field goal when they had a 4th down and five yds to go with a 6 pt lead was a catastrophic mistake.

My personal opinion is selling alcohol at a collegiate football or basketball game would be unwise bordering on insane. Even my other school, Ohio State, does not do it and they make no pretense of being a Christian university, and they drink a lot in Columbus. If we have to sell alcohol for our games to be a draw, we have a big problem. Pretty sure your other school is like my other school, UGA. No alcohol sales inside the stadium but widely available at tailgate parties all over campus, and sneaking alcohol into the stadium had been raised to an art form. One reason why I hated night games at UGA was the number of additional hours it allowed tailgaters, fraternities and sororities to drink before games.

If I remember correctly, we set up 4 guys at the endzone, saw what they were in and then called a timeout. I think had we not used that TO, I think they would have tried for a hail mary. But the TO gave them more time to come up with a different plan, which was the quick draw to the RB. If a LB comes up and makes the tackle, we likely go into the half only down 10-7. Instead, he ran 20 yards and fell down with 2 seconds on the clock. It was a smart play on their part
What I didn't understand was the very last play of the game for PVAM. It looked like everyone thought they were going to spike it. The RB kept telling the QB to spike the ball; he didn't and no one move; offense or defense. Was it pass interference on Jolly? Some of their players seemed to think so. I also think if Conley had just took off and run, he might have scored. Again, no one on offense or defense moved. Such a strange way to end a ballgame

I thought I heard a whistle blow on the tv broadcast. And the players reacted like they thought the play was dead. It was a very strange ending.

The referee placed the ball and they snapped it as the ref was running back, he blew his whisle and cranked his arm to start the clock but the panthers were already in play.

The referee placed the ball and they snapped it as the ref was running back, he blew his whisle and cranked his arm to start the clock but the panthers were already in play. When the referee blew his whistle, most players stopped thinking that play had been stopped. Luckily, the pass fell incomplete. The refs would have had one heck of a mess to straighten out had the pass been caught for a TD - PV did, in fact, snap the ball before it was put in play.

On this subject, a great bit of coaching by the PV coach. He clearly told the running back to go down at 1 or 2 seconds.so they could call time and try the FG.

At the fan experience committee meeting yesterday the survey results for the first 2 games was discussed. One particularly astute observation was that there is no tailgate space for non-student tailgating. While ACU won’t sponsor beer sales, it was also pointed out that they aren’t in the business of policing someone’s cooler outside of the stadium.
While unlikely to happen this year, the athletics department plans to study how to have an outside of the stadium tailgate experience yet keep within the spirit of ACU rules, etc. Particularly aimed at the greater Abilene community rather than alumni, etc.

Feel free if this needs continued on the fan experience thread.
I am glad that the committee is discussing pregame activities for the greater Abilene community. Space is certainly a factor, but I think we do have space if we get creative. Being creative also would mean doing more than just allowing space for ACU and non-ACU people to come and tailgate. Tailgating is one thing, but it takes time and effort. I can see ACU alumni doing that to some degree if we provide an area and opportunity. I don’t see the greater Abilene community doing it to much of a degree, even if we provide space for them. So, providing opportunity and space won’t be enough. That’s why I suggested food trucks and games. The family needs to know that this is a fun evening out experience and value. There is very likely those in the community that want to tailgate with alumni, but I don’t know if that would be the majority. Also, there are some alumni that maybe don’t want to tailgate or eat up in the club. I don’t want to take away from food opportunities within the stadium, but there needs to be more available. Picnic tables and outdoor games near the stadium and food would help. If students or alumni would help facilitate these games that would help even more. That’s also where family pricing comes into play as part of a bigger plan and package. The student tailgating inside the stadium is a good start. For those with no ties, and looking for entertainment, we have to market something more... a total experience for a real value. You wouldn't have to do food trucks but include the tailgating as part of it and meals that the family can buy for a good price while playing games, etc... I am sure there is more that I am not thinking of and maybe has already been discussed.

Discounted family ticket packages might well help Sell seats.

I agree with Outsider. We have a half full stadium. Discounted family ticket packages might well help Sell seats. Are ticket prices really the issue? Don't we have a bunch of season ticket holders who leave empty seats every Saturday night? My hunch is that ticket prices don't do much but making it more difficult for DFW crowds to day trip with late starts and generally being not good recently is more of a factor.

How much cheaper can it even go? Concessions are very well priced as well.
