Maybe McCarty was eating a Snickers?

Maybe he had faith in his pitcher, and the batter got a hold of one that would have routinely been a fly ball but was aided by the wind and turned it into a HR. Maybe he wanted to get his guy some confidence by getting the next out, and should have had a routine out, but the wind pushed it just far enough. Maybe we should be thankful that our team is 10-3 overall, hitting .301 to our opponents' .249, and only have four errors compared to 11 by our opponents.
We have the best record in the WAC, one of the top three hitting percentages as a team and our team ERA is improving each series. It's early, the 'Cats are still trying to find out all the right formulas at the plate, in the field and on the mound.
HUGE series coming up against SFA this weekend. Go 'Cats!!!

McCarty only knows why and whatever that reason was, I’m sure it was valid in his mind at the time. I’m sure not second guessing him.

You are right of course, Coach McCarty had his reasons and he is a very strong coach/manager of our baseball team. One cannot predict the future. My take is one from a former coach who was a super-star in his era. It was as if he refused to lose. It was amazing really. But baseball is a game of the unexpected. I remember this same coach losing a state championship on a routine final out, a fly ball, to centerfield. But, the ball hit the fielder's glove heel and bounced out and two runs scored to lose the game 2-3. Bad stuff happens.
This same coach guarded the line in late innings, was pretty much intolerate of pitchers walking batters in the last inning, and was quick to spot conditions that were shifting. Whether you got pulled from the game or not, you celebrated the ingenious coach who prepared every player on the team to do exactly as he had taught.
Part of the success and higher expectations for our Wildcat baseball team is Coach McCarty and his staff. I sure do not want to swap them for someone else.

I am sure no one is surprised with my question and I don't necessarily disagree with what the reactions to it are. I knew all that when I said it. There are a lot of what ifs, but there are also decisions that we all look back on and there are decisions that fans look back on and still wonder what was going on. This will be one for McCarty. My question had it's sarcasm about being too busy to notice what was happening on the mound at a critical juncture of a game we could have easily won. One could say or ignore the word "should" all they want. Yes, no one can predict anything but risk analysis still happens in coaching as much as Disaster Management. Mitigation works in both. The questioning of what was happening in a coaches mind has zero to do with the other successes the team is having and questioning one in no way diminishes the other. If McCarty was truly, and consciously, willing to give up a win for a greater purpose that is for him to answer to. If it was more important for him to stop what he was watching and change strategy he would have done it. We still have a long way to go.

By default, every time an opponent hits a home run the manager waited one too many batters to make changes.

By default, every time an opponent hits a home run the manager waited one too many batters to make changes. Maybe every time a walk and two home runs and a wild pitch???

I was disappointed in the outcome of Sunday's game and have wondered for several years about how McCarty uses his pitchers. But I also know that 1) McCarty is a good coach and pitching coach, and 2) Boggan had earned the right to finish the game because of his prior successes. He had pitched beautifully in his 1st outings of the year. Chalk Sunday's game to an anomaly and let's get 'em next time.

Time to get a good look. ACU now ranked ahead of Texas in NCAA Div 1., and Texas Tech also. Trouble is we are ranked fifth in the WAC. Nevada is ranked ahead of us and we took 3 out of 4 from them. www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi

Exciting and big weekend ahead, starting tonight. Send those lumberjacks packing and we are off to a great start. Here's to hoping for strong pitching. The Wildcats are a truly strong team when the pitching is going well. I'll take 2 out of 3, but why not 3 out of 3?

Well, they started out the series well. The first half+ of the game was a pitcher's battle and we couldn't get any hits, but then we open it up in the 2nd half of the game.

7-4 Wildcats. Clutch hitting in the bottom of the eighth and strong relief effort. Good game Cats.

I don't get it. We walk two then give up homer to close the score to 8-6.
