I've been wondering, do teams like the Rangers and Astros have an advantage over California and others who charge a state income tax? 10 or 12 percent is a significant expense on a many million dollar salary.

My understanding , from people I’ve spoken to in the league, you pay taxes for wherever the game is played. So if the cowboys play in LA they have to pay income taxes there. Lots of players mention they like being traded or signing with teams that don’t have state income taxes for home games

Bingo, Very interesting. I understand the part about paying taxes in multiple states where you earn income, but California is the only one that requires one to provide both their full tax form and a copy of the Federal one. The other states are just simple forms and payments. California is a headache and a costly thing -- a return as thick as the Federal one, no matter the amount. I had an office in Longbeach. Over-payment might take a year or two to recover. I would not want to live in California, even though I once thought I would. I was not not born in Texas, but I DID get here as soon as I could. So glad it was ACHS (ACES actually) and then ACU and not the University of Oregon.

You are very kind. It was WW II that put my parents on the Columbia River (Portland) but the genes were throughly Texan and came home when the war ended. Now those genes are just old.
