For those of you that don't subscribe to DCTF, here is their prediction of the UAC:
1. Central Arkansas
2. Eastern Kentucky
3. SFA
4. Austin Peay
5. ACU
6. Tarleton
7. North Alabama
8. Utah Tech
9. Southern Utah
They have this to say about ACU:
"ACU continues to scour the transfer portal, searching for depth at most positions. Every team wants more offensive and defensive linemen, but the Wildcats need to find depth at linebacker. Also, expect to see ACU add more defensive linemen considering six of the current roster's eight linemen are in their first year of college football. The Wildcat fan base has a tendency to raise their expectations rather quickly, but Patterson seems to have this program lining up for success at the national level. That might not happen this year, but winning the UAC title and an automatic berth in the FCS playoffs is a reasonable expectation."

A "5th place ranking" and "success at the national level ... might not happen this year" do not equal a reasonable expectation to win the UAC title. I also thought it is interesting for them to say that we raise our expectations quickly considering most of us here don't seem to say such things. Yes, we absolutely have high expectations, but that tends to make us overly critical at times more than anything else. I like what I am seeing, although I too want more depth and size on the DL and help at LB. I still think the DL is the higher priority for size and experience, as well as numbers. Unless we get some last minute transfers, I don't think either will really happen. Over-all, I don't think #5 is a bad place to put us right now though. I am just not sure how putting us at #5 and still saying winning a UAC title and playoff birth in the same summary makes sense.

I thought the same thing. Probably a combination of them not knowing a whole lot about the UAC and a feeling that the conference is pretty even.

I haven't read the whole article in Texas football but I think the position that could tip the scales for us is RB. With Banks and Dobbins having a good year (Dobbins 2 years) of experience under their belts and with the addition of two power 5 backs in Sunday from Washington and Hunt from Arkansas and also the improvement of Wisherd (spring practice kudos from Patterson) and the possible inclusion of an exciting little scatback in Parker Polk, our running game could be vastly improved. I don't know who the starting OL will be but if Fogle gets minutes and Pullen is healthy to add to Moore, Yanta, Thielen, Hatten, and maybe Walker (UH transfer) we could run teams into the ground.

I also know that on paper we look "thin" at LB (Campbell says we are weak there) but we do have quality, if not numbers. With Moore, Young, Coheley and Kelley returning and the addition of Wilhoit (transfer) and the 3 young freshmen (Woody, Koumado and Morton) we could be more solid than people think. Injuries could be our undoing at this position. I'm really excited about adding Wilhoit to the mix.

These rankings are made based on last year and incomplete information that the mag had a few months ago so I don’t take too much stock in them. I thought the comment about our fan base was a cheap shot. Heck, SFA fans are already making reservations in Frisco.
Bogey, you left out Rafiti. So all five starters are back on the OL. As you noted, the best news is that there are high quality back ups pushing the starters.

Is it correct that we play four teams that are listed below us? We play SFA, UCA, Northern ALA, TSU, Utah Tech and Southern Utah. So yes, 4 teams ranked below us. The challenge will be that the two games we need to win the most are played in Conway and Nacogdoches respectively. |

Just look at the annual record prediction threads. There is a Kool-Aid crowd to a degree, but Cap is correct in noting that compared to other boards we are way more honest and even keel. They were just trying to be nice about it. I don't think they were saying we are delusional in thinking we will win the championship every year but that we are critical to a degree that implies we think we should be much better than we are. |

Maybe this has been answered before, but I was wondering what would our 7-4 record have been had our FG kicking average been what is was the prior year? We lost three games by three if I count correctly but I don't recall the effect of our missed FGs. Any guesses or analyses?
