We've lost a little ground from our "high mark" of the day (-7) but still having a good team round. Heusel has gone to -4 and Cooper is -2. Hoyeau has lost 3 shots and is now at +1 and Buisson is wildly inconsistent with 5 birdies, 2 double bogeys and 2 bogeys for a +1. Johnson has gotten a birdie and is now only +2. So -4 as a team and in a T-7. We are 5 shots out of 6th and 9 shots from the leader which is Southern Miss. Central Ark has been leaking serious oil and is +6 for the day and in 2nd place.

Buisson gets 2 more birdies (#'s 6 & 7 today) to go back to -1. Cooper bogeys to go to -1 and Zane bogeys to go to -3. Johnson gets another birdie to get back to +1 (from a +3 start) and Hoyeau stays at +1. So with all that we stay at -4 for the day and Even for the tourney. We lead the field in par 4 scoring but are almost last in par 5 scoring. We are 1 behind in # of birdies made.

After 6 or 7 holes today we were ahead of Louisiana on the board. They have now surged into a tie for 1st. We could catch the 2nd round leader, Central Arkansas, with a good finish. We are 2 behind them with 4 holes to go.

We get a birdie and give it back, get a birdie and give it back. We are currently tops in the field in birdies made but last in the field in pars made. Very inconsistent. At least we aren't having the big holes we had last year. Heusel is now -4 for the day but Cooper and Buisson have given one back. So as it stands right now Heusel -4, Cooper -2, Buisson E and Hoyeau +1. Johnson is +2. Comegys had a really bad day and ended up with a 78, our worst score of the tourney. Still have a chance to finish 6th.

Heusel birdies #17 to go -5, Cooper birdies #18 to shoot -3 (69). Buisson and Heusel are on #18. If either birdies and the other pars we will rise to 6th all by ourselves. We are currently -7 for the day, -3 for the tourney and T-6. Heusel is T-4th and Cooper finishes T-16th.

I'll start typing this before Buisson finishes. We may shoot the best score of the day. We are going to finish under par for the tourney. This is a very good start to our season. Zane Heusel shot 73-70-67. Preston Cooper shot 72-73-69. This team can be very good. Looking forward to seeing them play in person in a couple of weeks at Sapphire NC. We lead this tourney in birdies and in par 4 scoring. We have the best final round scoring at -7. If (big if) we had been middle of the road in par 5 scoring we'd have run away with this tourney. For example Houston had 28 birdies, while we had 8.. That's giving away 20 shots on the par 5's. Lots to be happy about, though. This is the kind of team I thought we could have. Now to get better.

Bogey, love the updates and analysis -- you do a terrific job of covering golf (among other things). It almost makes me want to do updates in the middle of track meets, except I am always rather busy during meets.
I would love to see ACU contend for the WAC title in golf and it reads like there might be a chance of that this year.

That would be great... and if we win both men's and women's it would be outstanding!!!

I believe we will contend in both men's and women's golf. We have the players. And both are young teams.

2nd tourney of the fall on Mon-Tues. The J T Poston in Sapphire NC. We are taking the same 5 who were our scorers in tourney #1. Totally different kind of course for us (mountains of SW North Carolina). Players:Zane Heusel, Greg Hoyeau, Preston Cooper, Trenton Johnson and Thomas Buisson.

I will be there. Mountain driving is not my favorite but this area is really beautiful, so I'll enjoy. Hope to see the ladies next month in Asheville.

Last year we finished 10th with Jaime Lewis, Brian Comegys and Karson Grigsby, so almost a new team this year.
