Seems we are missing quite a few players too.

In my opinion, the offensive playcalling never allowed Maverick to get into a rhythm, though he has missed high all night. The third quarter was horrible playcalling. We had no more than 5 playaction passes all night despite establishing the run multiple times. Really disappointing because the defense played incredibly tonight. The points are deceiving considering they were on the field so much with all the 3 and outs on the offensive side of the ball.

Not to mention losing two key timeouts due to confusion on the play call.

Good effort. Teams that are used to winning and are confident play fast and play with swagger and they looked much more like that type of team than we did.

Did anyone notice Colt Cooper (#91) was playing on the defensive line tonight?

This game was really a poor performance. QB started off target, our D-Line was not really a problem for their QB, and our vaulted DBs, with one fine exception, could not really handle their passing attack. They have a fine Quarterback for sure, but I did not expect their O-Line to be so dominant. One would think this far into the season we would have our formations and play calling pretty well down pat but we were often confused and ineffective. I guess (or I hope) this is our let-down for the year. We do have a big-time kicking game both with punting and field goals. The kicking was beautiful.

We give up 517 total yds and 373 yds passing. We can get no pressure on the QB with our 3 man line with a rushing LB. By the end of the game they were just pushing us around. Some of this was because of our 3 and outs. Why did we not change our offensive philosophy and give Maverick some passes he could complete? Oh well, we move to Plan B.

Did anyone notice Colt Cooper (#91) was playing on the defensive line tonight? I didn’t see him play but I saw the name and number. So no wishert, banks, colt cooper playing defense maybe, and little to no rotation on the o-line. No Oke, Reese young, damion hart, and little depth at LB or rotation in the secondary so Kelley, plumlee, reynolds, moffett, jolly seemed to get worn down.

Regarding the secondary, Egbo left the game because of probably the worst targeting call I have seen in a while.

Our lack of readiness on offense was very strange. The OC was calling some very questionable plays. It seemed like we tried to run plays into their strengths rather than plays based on the down and yardage. Jeremiah played a tough game but man oh man was it strange to run right into their D-line on long yardage, once we ran it three times in a row right into their strength.
And you are correct, Egbo did not target, he used his arm.

Great adjustments to rotate D-line by UIW coming out of the half. If we made an adjustment, I don't know what it was. The passing game for the Cats was in a funk all night; McIvor also had running lanes and pulled himself back (only to make many off-target throws).
Lots of improving to do.

The runs up the middle on 3rd down sent shivers down my spine - they were reflective of the prior coaching regime. I thought we had moved on from those days.

Couple of thoughts. UIW was not a must win. UCA is, however.
Cooper was moved to DE this week because of lack of depth. Also, Freshman Elijah Sims is working with the DL as well. DE was actually his best position in high school.
Maverick was off the whole game. He and the offensive coaches never seemed to figure out the Cards 3-deep zone. He seemed to be indecisive and had a case of happy feet. The OL did a good job of pass blocking so it’s all on Maverick.
Without blitzing on every play, we don’t have much pass rush. That offense will chew up blitzes. The long QB run for a td that, in my opinion, broke our backs, was on on a blitz.
IMHO there were 2 poor decisions by the coaching staff. Why did we not go ahead and kick on the first drive. 4th and 4 is a low probability down. Kind of a momentum killer. Also, why onside kick with 3 minutes to go. If you kick it out of the end zone , no time goes off the clock. With 2 time outs and assuming the D could get a 3 and out there would still be 2 minutes left.
Hats off to UIW. They are very talented and played very well. The deserved the win. We didn’t give it to them, they earned it.

We have to put this one behind us and hope we learn something. Maybe write down "Don't run short yardage plays on 3rd and long. Also, when opponents run pass after pass into their right flat, maybe shift your defense a bit. We got one interception but playing a bit coverage with help downfield we could have had a handful more interceptions. They were so predictable because we gave them those passes. Our passing game needs more variety as well. Hail Marys and short outs are not working well for us. But the biggest suggestion is don't run three straight off tackles when you have long yardage to gain. The most exciting thing of the night for us was watching professional level punts and FGs. Wish we had that last year. Those soaring punts were just beautiful. We beat them handily in the punting game, even with a bad targeting call. I just cannot accept that UIW had better players than ACU across the board. I think we got out coached, they called a good game, while we acted like we had trouble even knowing the plays to call and the formations to run.
