The latest evolution of ACU to an even more distinguished university is the approval to add degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering. Coming soon is likely to be a huge step, adding Nuclear Engineering. Our fine university is recognized for its unique mission and for growing academic excellence. It is a rising star in the University world.

And by the way, ABET, the national certification board for engineers encouraged ACU to do this. Their last visit to the department was outstanding.

Another huge step academically for ACU and the Physics and Engineering Department.
ACU has recruited physics majors for years by pointing our that our UNDERGRADS get to go to Los Alamos and Brookhaven, while other schools only send grad students. Do we still send students to the big national labs or are they staying at ACU for the summers while we have such a big project on the campus?

Another huge step academically for ACU and the Physics and Engineering Department. ACU has recruited physics majors for years by pointing our that our UNDERGRADS get to go to Los Alamos and Brookhaven, while other schools only send grad students. Do we still send students to the big national labs or are they staying at ACU for the summers while we have such a big project on the campus? Both things continue. The Atom Smashers group has research at Fermilab (neutrinos) and of course the SERC and NEXT means a few dozen are doing research on the campus. The strange thing is how many other universities now bring their students to Abilene. During summer there are about 150 researchers on campus and during the school year there are maybe 75 on campus counting everyone. When I talk to students from other universities they are typically very excited and impressed by the work going on at ACU. We actually will have at least one student getting her Ph.D. at another university while they work in the NEXT Lab along-side our undergraduates. The student doing this is an ACU graduate!
