Reading reports this morning that Coach Jimbo Fisher will be fired, possibly as early as this morning. If that happens, that could make things wild for those players.

There was a ton of "talk" about Fisher's 75 million dollar contract and the bottom line seemed to be what the Permian Basin oil and gas companies (think petroleum engineers from A&M) might be willing to do to take on a buyout. Fisher's salary this year is $9 million I was told. Discontent is huge. Texas A&M will not stand for mediocracy in the SEC, but they currently are standing fourth in the west part of the SEC, and do not have a single road win in conference. I worry that Fisher may try to obliterate our Wildcats as a parting shot. Of course, it could mean he gives up as well. I have a headache just thinking about it because I went to the ACU game yesterday and today I am home with a bad cold or the flu or whatever, and yes, I got the vaccination.

This makes ZERO difference for our game with them: Go to College Station, get slaughtered, collect check, come back to Abilene.

Great...Jimbo gets fired just in time for his team to give him a parting gift of a 100-0 beatdown of ACU.

Per the Texas Tribune: "In the meantime, A&M Assistant Coach Elijah Robinson has been named the team’s interim head coach for the final two games of the season: Abilene Christian University on Nov. 18 and Louisiana State University on Nov. 25."

Any word on that the "spread" might be for the game this Saturday? I have tried to look it up on-line and I simply can't make heads-or-tails of the verbiage used on the sites.

Everyone knows that we are in for a long afternoon vs the Aggies. Their strength is rushing the passer and tackles for loss (lead the nation in sacks and TFL's). This is a game where our OL has to put on their big boy pads and play to their best (which still will probably not be good enough). We need to discard our "slow" end arounds and run straight ahead or off tackle. Passing has to be quick. Use our height. On defense I wish we could wrap up tackles. This has been a weakness all year and it can/will be disastrous vs A&M. This is the last game for many of our guys. I'll miss Reese Moore and Patrick Jolley, they've been fun to watch and I applaud the rest of the seniors for choosing ACU and leading our program. Just wish this was not the opponent to end their college careers.

But what if...
What if this ACU Wildcat team with nothing lose goes into the hostile confines of Kyle Field and shocks the world?
What if this Wildcat football team that has put together quality offensive drives with non-conservative play calling puts together some serious drives to win the time of possession battle? What if this offense that averages 344.6 yards per gam, including 154.8 rushing and 189.8 passing, figures something out and drives the ball and puts points on the board?
What if this defense, who has obviously struggled, figures out how to tackle because after all, this is the last game for many of our players? What if the defense that has shown glimpses of stopping ability figures out a way to stop the opponent? What if this team that is head coached by a former Big XII DC goes in there with a defensive game plan to rock the Aggies' world?
What if the Aggies walk in thinking, "This is going to be a bloodbath, why should we even try." and before you know it, the Wildcats have punched them right square in the mouth and have the home team rocked on the back of their heels?
What if our special teams win the day? What if the return game that has averaged 21.24 yards per return has a big day against an Aggie team that has given up big return after big return? What if we cause them to kick FGs, of which they have missed eight, and our kicker who is 13-13 wins the day?
What if the Aggies who are heavily penalized with 68 on the season do something at the wrong time to pull out several flags that turn the tide in our favor?
Do you think our guys are going into Saturday's game as a "Oh well, let's play for fun and see how close we can keep the score?" OR do you think they are going to walk into Kyle Field thinking, "What if....?"
What if we pull an App State and shock the college football landscape?
I'm not saying we will... but what if?!?

I wrote a post in this spot but my smarter 10 percent thought it was too gloomy, so I edited it to say only this: This season was the most excited I have been about both football and basketball, and that was probably an unwise train of thought.

Risky post for this thread, for sure. Last year, one of the best game ACU played was against Mizzou. Take away a punt return, one pass play, and you have a winnable game against an SEC school who this year is raising eyebrows. But none of that matters. This year's ACU team has already let everyone down to the point there's no need to see anything good. Of course, I'm fairly new to this scene but the attitudes here are about on par with the ACU fan culture...

I am just hoping for a good showing by our guys. With the recruits that A & M has they should run all over us. Hopefully that won't happen. With their game last week, their firing of Jimbo, and playing LSU next week, maybe they will be distracted. It being their last home game probably won't help us any. Guess that we will see. Have never attended a football game at A & M. Have seen them play in the Cotton Bowl. Seeing adults throwing all of their "gang signs"/gestures was almost scary.

I know who your favorite player on the team is and I love the way that he plays the game. I believe that he is one of the building blocks that a winning team will be built upon at ACU. I like Texas48 doing a little "dreaming" about the TAMU game. I too hope that ACU plays up against the Aggies - much like they did against Mizzou. I have seen several of our money games in person since ACU moved to FCS and I have been proud of the Wildcats in those games -- Baylor, Colorado State, UNT in 2019 (at least after that disastrous 1st quarter). I just don't know that we will be able to stay on the field with an Aggie team with that much talent. The coaching change and the mayhem that could cause may help the Wildcats. I absolutely believe that the Wildcats will give it a go. I also believe that Maverick will be overwhelmed by a rush that exceeds anything he has ever seen before. I also buy into the theory on a previous thread that the stack defense may well take 2 years to successfully implement. All of that said, this Saturday's game should probably be the most challenging game the 'Cats have faced since the FCS move and keeping even reasonably close would be a moral victory to me.

As an ACU football alum, i want to see us compete. I’m sure our guys are gonna be motivated to compete in this environment. At the same time, I have been very bummed about the past decade of football and I think that’s OK to say. I don’t think anyone wants to flounder in mediocrity for a decade. Some on the forum give people hell about ‘purple colored glasses’ and some on this forum give people hell about pessimism. I think that’s any fan base.
