Do you think the Wildcats will hire another DC or will Coach Patterson call the defense?

I was told yesterday that the main goal is to get through signing day, then reevaluate where things are.

Are we having financial problems that keep us from hiring a DC and QB coach?

NOPE! The OC is the also the QB Coach. That is very common around college footbzll. Teams can only have 11 full-time coaches on a staff; head coach and 10 assistants. When it comes to DC, this is Patterson's defense. It is what he ran at Tech. So, he could essentially take on the DC role if he wants to, and then you add an assistant somewhere else. Another option is you move Holt, Dubin or Wilson into that role and then add someone to take over their role. Last option is you hire someone from outside the organization. But why rush into it? Again, the system isn't changing at all. The goal for the 8 days is to recruit, recruit, recruit.

My question was spurred by this: we did not hire a new person for QB coach (Clark) as was earlier said we would. Seems we are not repacing our "chief of football operations) (Seawright). Now seems we aren't replacing our DC (Cassiday). I realize that having the HC wearing two hats is not unheard of but certainly is not optimal and having your OC also coaching QB's is sometimes done but also not optimal. Also, moving a young new guy like Jersild (whose only experience before last year was grad asst at UNA) to special teams coach seems desperate to me. At best, these are changes that should have been made in late November and not early January. And now we're hustling to recruit with 8 days left. Did we lose a recruiting coordinator too? Doesn't sound to me like we're staying the course; but instead sounds like a pencil pusher said at the end of the year--cut expenses. Just my simple brain trying to justify changes that don't add up. Maybe to lure Bowie here we had to make some serious cuts to make things work (this makes sense to me). I certainly hope to see positives in results on the field.

But we did replace Clark, with Bowie. The 1st OC under Patterson also coached QB's. Pugh was the OC last year and coached OL. Again, not uncommon. With only 10 coaching spots, you have to double up somewhere. Have to!
Who said we aren't replacing Seawright? GA's and Seawright were the main recruiting folks. They would give the names to the coaches and let them do their work. I do think this staff will hire someone to replace Seawright, though the title might be different.
When it comes to the DC role, I was giving out the options. Never did I say this is what they are for sure going to make Patterson HC and DC, but it could happen, yes. Sure, we can rush the process and hire someone just to hire someone. But why do that? This is Patterson's defense. He ran the same thing at Texas Tech. If the right person comes along, great! But there is no reason to rush so we can have all the spots filled.
The staff is not scrambling to recruit. What if I told you they are expecting at least a half dozen recruits on campus this weekend. When I said the idea is to recruit, recruit, recruit, that is true. I would imagine the coaches are on the phone quite a lot, talking to kids that are coming and trying to convince others to check us out too. Guess what, most FCS schools in the country are doing the same thing.
The sky is not falling; it never was

I was told tonight that ACU has hired a DC. If it who I think it is, he is another 1st time DC, but has a wealth of experience at the FBS level

Last night Coach Patterson said he would be the DC, himself. He gave a great review of where we are and was very positive. He was very impressed with his transfers coming in. The OC is a very energetic fellow who has real promise of making his Air Raid 2.0 exciting and even more flexible.

Patterson and this other coach will serve as Co-DC's with this other coach working with the DB's primarily.
