Decided to work backwards. Let's look at the safety position for this year. Here are the key players for 2024-
Moffett- Sr Plumley- Jr Dudley- Soph Jav. Ware- Sr TJ Marshall- Sr Jal. O'Neal- RFr
With Moffett and Plumley returning, the Wildcats return 2 of their top 6 tacklers from last year. Moffett is entering his 4th year as a starter. Plumley seemed to be the deep safety most often. He was around the ball a lot, but I hope this year, he makes more plays while the ball is in the air. I was really impressed with Dudley before his season ending injury. He appears to not be overwhelmed by the moment. Ware gives us a player with tons of experience, including experience at the FBS level. He appears to be a guy that can cover the slot receiver. Marshall is a solid tackler, but I have always felt he would be better at LB than at S. O'Neal was one of our top recruits in 2023. I am hopeful he can take a big step to get more on the field this year.
Overall, I really like this group. I do anticipate they will likely add a player or 2 when the portal opens back up again. The safety needs to keep everything in front of them. We need to do a better job of that in 2024 if we expect to compete in the UAC. I am giving this unit a B, based on that we have 2 starters returning and a key player in Dudley coming back as well.

I’m also giving a B but I’d give it a B+ if I could. I think this is a good group and we add 2 freshmen in the fall.

I think Dudley is a star in the making. I wonder if he will play the hybrid position again with Kelley or if he'll make his mark at safety. Moffett has been a stud but it bothers me that he tries often to make a hard hit without wrapping the ball carrier up. My grade hovers between a B and C. This position has to be better for us to compete.

The Safeties excite me. They are crucial in my mind at helping stop the run in a 3-3-5. With LBs stunting they have to be there. Plumley and Moffett have motors and are physical.
