The CB unit lost a lot from last year, including their top 3 performers- Jolly, Egbo and Aaron Reynolds. The cupboard is not bare, but we are less experienced. Here is who returns
Mukes- Jr Br. Ramsey- Soph Tys. Williams- Soph Mar. Covington- Jr
Probably like many of you, I really thought Mukes would do more than he did last year. Part of that was he was a former 4-star recruit from OU and part of is because of his size. Ramsey seemed to play more in 2022, than he did in 2023. I still believe the staff is high on him, but this is a big year for him. Williams played a lot on special teams and some in the secondary. He should be in the mix for a starting job in 2024. And then there is Covington. We are now his 3rd school in 4 years. He does have a lot of talent, but can he put it all together.
Overall, while I like the talent that we have, there are just too many unknowns. We also lost our DB Coach to Sam Houston St. I do expect them to add several transfers to the mix, but until then, I can't give this unit anything but a D

I guess I didn't realize we were so thin at CB. I think Tyson Williams will have a breakout year, maybe as a starter but surely as a very capable sub. If Covington is the real deal and Mukes gets on the field, we could be solid. I was thinking O'Neal could be at corner too. What about Scott Koumado? I know he played LB in HS but was moved to DB when he got here. Could he be the hybrid safety/LB in the mold of Kelley and Dudley? With Cassiday gone we may not have that position. Anyway, we really need this position to develop into a strength and obviously we have a ways to go.

I'm just hoping we play tighter coverage without so much cushion for receivers to exploit.

I gave the corners a D as well. There is talent … but no Jolly at this point. Might need a summer transfer if one comes available but otherwise ?!?
It’s time for Jordan Mukes to show the world what he’s got. He’s where Patrick was 3 years ago so there’s hope.
