I apologize that it has been a few days since I have done one of these; been in all day meetings. Here is who appears to be key contributors at the LB position this year
Coheley- Sr Dar. Moore- Sr R. Young- Jr Iz. Kelley- Sr Eth. Taite- Sr Rash. Myles- Soph
This group returns all 3 starters and 4 of our top 5 leading tacklers from last season. There is lots of experience here, led by Coheley, Moore and Young who have received significant playing time the past 2 seasons. The good news, the last game of the year gave me at lot of hope for this unit. The way they played against A&M showed what we were capable of. The problem was there were a lot of inconsistencies. Is that the players, the scheme, confusion with the scheme, I am not sure. From my perspective, it sometimes seemed like they were thinking what to do, instead of reacting to the play. I am hoping another year in this system will make a ton of difference. And before anyone asks, Cassity being gone will not change this defense. Patterson has run a version of the 3-3-5 for a long time.
If this group can stay healthy and build off of the A&M game, we could really have something here. This group has to stop the run and when they blitz, they have to get to the QB. Overall, I give this group a solid B, as I think this is the deepest group on our defense. I truly believe the talent is there; now can it take the next step.

I agree with everything you said. Staying healthy will be the key.

I too hope the A&M game was a flipping of the switch so to speak for the LBs. I felt like throughout the season there was confusion coupled with too much overthinking. Cirby had a heckuva season. I think Darius and Reese have always played pretty well together given the odd rotations they did two years ago. I'm excited to see what the three can do together for sure. 42's mom and I would really love to see him play a season uninjured. His shoulder was majorly screwed up and much of the damage was clearly from his freshman year. Sadly, the shoulder and the nerve issue that kept him out for 4 games two years ago weren't related injuries. So we are praying for a healthy season for sure.
