I only hear second-hand but some players think both McIvor and our Tulane transfer are going to be strong this year. And a wide receiver was pretty excited about the offensive possibilities compared to last years playbook.

Got a pic of spring practice today from Sam Ferguson with the message, " I think you'd like what I'm seeing." I love hearing positives from folks who are present.

I was encouraged by what I saw today from both sides of the ball.

I was also at practice. Different vibe on offense, for sure. They were playing fast and moving the ball around. The defense passes the eyeball test for me. Don’t have a roster but wr #82 really showed. So did rb #20.
More than anything, they looked like a veteran team who knew exactly what they were doing. Last year they were figuring everything out.

How is that the case if it’s a new scheme on both sides?

The defensive scheme hasn’t changed. It’s Patterson’s defense.
I’m just talking about the general approach of the players. For sure the offense is new.

Talked with an outstanding receiver today and he was excited about the pending offense. He wanted me to know about their upcoming scrimmage.

I guess football is of zero interest on this board right now. I guess it's time to move on. Next week we get an interview with KP (Tuesday), with a couple of players (Wednesday) and an assistant coach (Friday).

It is pretty hard to talk about football when there is only a trickle of info coming out. I did get a group email from Keith Patterson that provided some info -- I think I got it because I am a season ticket holder and season tickets are lagging again. Here is the first part of the email from KP:
"I have said repeatedly that the 2024 Wildcats will be the best team I have fielded in my tenure here and will have a great chance to win the United Athletic Conference championship. Nothing I’ve seen the first few days of spring training has changed that opinion I’ve been so impressed with how our returning student-athletes have performed, and our new additions have acclimated very quickly to our style and how we do things. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks of spring football and putting it all on display for our fans at the Spring Game on April 20. After adding quarterback Carson Haggard from Tulane during the transfer period, we have a battle for the starting spot between Carson and Maverick McIvor, who has started for us the last two seasons. Also in the mix are Quayde Hawkins, DeAngelo Ponder and Trevor Baker. When looking for a quarterback to lead a team, you want a player with leadership ability and the guy everyone will rally around. That’s the biggest intangible for any quarterback because if your teammates won’t rally around you, it’s hard to be successful as a quarterback. If they can show that quality, then they just have to get the ball to the playmakers at running back, tight end and wide receiver. And we’ve got plenty of those guys on our roster this season. We have a lot of talent in the quarterback room, and I’m interested to see how this competition shakes out this spring. We need to shore up the interior of our offensive line during camp. After losing Reese Moore, we’ll be looking to add an offensive tackle from the portal in May, particularly one with experience playing left tackle. As I told you in last month’s email, I will be coordinating and calling the defense this season, so these first few days of spring football have put me back in my comfort zone. I consider myself a teacher of the game, and I love that part of my job. In this role, I get to go back to coaching coaches on our scheme, what we want, and how we want to do it, and I love being part of that process. Offense is about timing, execution and playing under control. Defense is organized chaos and trying to disrupt the offense. Our job is to align our players to how the offense deploys and to teach them to react to what they see. I love the challenge of making that happen. We have some tremendous players all over the field on defense – on the line, at linebacker and in the secondary. I like the size and physical nature of our linemen. We have some good depth at linebacker and safety, but we need some players to step up at cornerback to fill the spots left by Patrick Jolly and Anthony Egbo Jr. Just because National Signing Day has passed and we have started spring ball doesn’t mean recruiting season has ended. We are always recruiting, and I would like to add two cornerbacks, one linebacker, one edge pass rusher, and either two offensive linemen or one offensive lineman and one quarterback from the portal in May."
There are a few nuggets in here, but not a lot of info to discuss. I would hope that the interviews planned for this next week may provide some additional fodder for discussion. And, in the same KP email blast there is also some announcements about staff additions.

I was hoping to go to the scrimmage last night but we had tix to Sing Song and granddaughters take precedence over spring football.
If, by chance, any of you went yesterday, we would sure like to hear what you have to say.
The Spring Game is the 20th and I also plan to go to a couple of practices this week.
Dry, did you and Mrs Dry make it to the scrimmage?

I was planning on attending the spring game when it was scheduled for 6 p.m. However, the 3 p.m. start time is right in the middle of HS regional track meet and I will have responsibilities at that meet. Let me tell you, parking for the regional meet is CRAZY -- there are 60 or more schools bringing their buses and they usually fill up the Edwards Dorm parking lot full. If the 4x400 relays finish up ahead of time, I may try to scramble over to the spring scrimmage. I certainly hope they post a spring roster like they did last year before the scrimmage.
