Thanks Trackfan, I knew of the statement by the new SFA AD. You confirm my issue with the SLC in that the schools STILL simply aren't stepping up to the plate. I was hoping the new leadership was better.

Local news in Tyler says the exit fee for SFA this year would be $2 million. Would it be the same for ACU if they leave thus year?

If we wait a year I don't think there is one. That is what I have been reading but I would need confirmation. By waiting a year, I don't think GCU and SU pay an exit fee.

I would also agree with other posters on other boards that IF the SLC were in play for us, ensuring that the SLC renegotiated ESPN+ contracts would be a must. I have heard too many SLC broadcasts aren't ESPN and have to pay per game. The quality of broadcasts going down in general is a concern of mine. If SLC schools aren't putting money into facilities, you know they aren't putting money into their networks and infrastructure...

That is in line with with the news report.

x.com/WACHoopsNation/status/1793311242331009301Random text I just got…. “Our AD just told us to start working on our game schedule as if SFA is gone. Meaning get two more games.” Take that for what it’s worth SFA fans and #WAChoops fans. Tweeted by WACHoopsNation

According to Matt Brown, SFA has submitted paperwork to leave the WAC

Adios SFA! What are your thoughts on Angelo State as a potential replacement? Strong Athletics, facilities are good in Basketball, Football could stand an upgrade, but serviceable for FCS. Enrollment is around 10k. I think I heard they are doing a feasibility study again now, but not sure if Texas Tech would support the move. Personally I think they should move up and join the WAC, now more than ever, but not sure they want to or able to do so. Thoughts/insider info?

It's a kick in the gut by SFA and UCO would be a better choice than ASU, but at this point I am not sure the WAC is worth it. DII move ups are not the answer, but the WAC doesn't have any other choice at this point. So, either way, it starts becoming an inferior conference. It's too unstable right now either way. SFA needs to reimburse its WAC counterparts for the football games it will back out of, as well as any other Fall sports teams if the move is immediate.

I also got the impression that he feels like we have time to make a decision about the Southland or if there will be other options in a year or two. Doesn't seem to feel the need to rush into a decision which is good.

And so the decision rests. I am not so foolish as to second guess President Schubert. He has done an excellent job in building the university’s programs.

I thought of an aspect of this realignment today that I have not seen anything about yet. Has there been a study on the effect of travel on student athletes’ academic performance? Perhaps this move by Stephen F is more than money, but is an academic decision to improve the performance in the classroom and to improve their APR scores. This could also improve the number of players that enter the portal and allow them to recruit better locally because family and friends can attend more games which in turn could increase the chances of graduating. Of course , SFA did have to serve a one year probation in 2021-2022 due to low APR as a member of the SLC.
