The early signing period starts just over a week from now - running from Nov 12-19. This early signing period has been a way of life for several years for basketball, although last year I did not see any press releases that ACU signed anyone in the early signing period for either the men or the women. Track and field as a sport has eschewed the early signing period for the past 7 years - I frankly do not know why. However, this year T&F just joined with basketball and the spring sports to have an early signing period and I fully expect to see ACU getting some T&F commitments during the early signing period. I also expect to see some midterm kids coming in for T&F - I don't expect to see Coach Barnier stand pat, even though he already has a team that should be very competitive this spring.
I hope that some of our eagle eyes, particularly those who are more Twitter savvy than me, will be able to spot some of our early signees starting next week.

Women's basketball already has their class for next year. I believe they have signed 4 girls. Men's basketball has signed 2 guys Jaren Lewis, a 6'5 Forward from Orlando, Fla. He averaged 10 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last year. They also signed Hayden Howell, a 6'7 Forward from Midwest City, Okla. He averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game

They may be committed but does not mean they have signed just yet.
I know we had a kid committed for basketball last year that was a SOLID recruit for us, and then he ended up signing with UTA.

Right you are, wildcatter, there will be no binding NLI's signed until November 12. In fact, here is the table of signing dates pulled directly from the national letter organization:
Sport (s) Initial Signing Date Final Signing Date Basketball (Early Period) November 12, 2014 November 19, 2014 Basketball (Regular Period) April 15, 2015 Division I: May 20, 2015 Division II: August 1, 2015 Football (Midyear JC Transfer) December 17, 2014 January 15, 2015 Football (Regular Period) February 4, 2015 April 1, 2015 Soccer and Men's Water Polo February 4, 2015 August 1, 2015 All Other Sports (Early Period) November 12, 2014 November 19, 2014 All Other Sports (Regular Period) April 15, 2015 August 1, 2015
It doesn't convert very smoothly over to this format, but you get the idea. The exceptions to this are the schools that are not part of the national letter organization (only NCAA D-I and D-II use the official national letter). The NAIA has a letter of intent that is binding only within the NAIA, but hopefully ACU is not after anyone who would consider an NAIA school. The NJCAA also has a letter of intent binding only within the JC ranks. It is very common to see good athletes who are on the borderline academically sign a official binding NLI as well as a NJCAA letter of intent, just to play it safe. Then, if they get into school at their preferred NCAA school, the JC letter is non-binding.
Clear as mud, right?
