The mystery P5 coach has 5 seasons of D1 coaching (more than 3 years at the FBS level) and a sixth year as a high school head coach. He has 3-4 at the FBS level alone.
Out of curiosity, why do you announce the other names but keep his name quiet?

Out of curiosity, why do you announce the other names but keep his name quiet? I was asked not to mention his name by the person who shared it with me. I wasn't the one to first name all of the others but the ones I did name didn't come with similar requests. Oh, and thanks for the clarification about the nameless candidate. I thought this was his first FBS job, plus a couple of years FCS, and one HS. I went back an looked at his bio. You are right. He had two previous stops at FBS schools before his current job, plus a couple of years at the FCS level, plus the one year as a HS HC. Do you know why he is interested in a position in Texas since he isn't from this region? Regardless, by adding staff with Texas connections he could gain access through them to Texas HS coaches. I can't put his name out there, but since you know who he is you could. I'd love for it to be out there, just not by me.

So, i just received a pm giving me permission to reveal the other name since it is obviously out there. It's Autry Denson, rb coach at Notre Dame, with previous stops at South Florida, Miami of Ohio and Bethune Cookman. www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/autry_denson_958011.htmlOf all our candidates, he is most up front about his faith. As a player, he was first team All American and is Notre Dame's all-time leading rusher.

I haven't dug deep, but is his faith of the catholic variety?

I believe Lee went to Notre Dame, so that makes it all the more interesting.

Had a friend in Wichita who put in his app to coach at a local Catholic High School. Was required to convert to the Catholic faith in order to coach. Don't know if that's true across the board but if true might be troubling to many ACU alums.

Well, he played at Notre Dame, coached at catholic high school and again back at ND. So I'd say odds are pretty good of him being Catholic.

Or maybe he got the job at a Catholic HS because of his status as a former Notre Dame player. Most Catholic universities do not limit hiring to Catholics. I was offered a position at St Louis U years ago with no mention. The contract made no mention of religion. I can't tell from his Twitter posts. There is nothing overtly Catholic in his comments or Memes. As others have pointed out, Lee went to Notre Dame.

Now that we know a name, is there any way to just ask the man?

Now that we know a name, is there any way to just ask the man? I'm pretty sure if he is on our short list, that question has already been asked by Lee or the search firm. These aren't just names of people who have applied, they are people who are sill in the running after some vetting.

Technically you are right but since every conference recognizes a game against ND as a P5 match up, I called it P5.ND has a sort of back door football scheduling arrangement with the ACC and membership for all other sports

I'm going to keep pretending as if this name is a mystery...but if it's the coach off the ND staff I think it is, I'm intrigued, but at the same time I'm very very worried about the lack of experience.
