OL Qamar Acres will be playing here next year as a walk-on. He played at Mount Ida College last year, but is from Haltom, TX. The incoming Sr. is listed at 6'3 298. Obviously not a high-profile signing, but he does add depth to a spot where more depth is needed.
Apparently the college he was playing at is shutting its doors. Good for him to find a place where he can play.

Got to admit, SLU is closer to home for most SEC guys.

No offense to Qamar, coaches or current linemen but it still makes me a little uneasy when I see both SLU and SHSU pick up highly recruited OL FBS drop down players from Georgia and Ohio State. I know we have made some really good progress, but there still is a hill to climb. I continue to put my faith in this team and staff.

I certainly think we will see some additional FBS dropdowns before the summer is out. Remember that we did not pick up Weber last year until the summertime.
The situation with Qamar Acres is unusual, in that he is transferring from a school that is closing their doors -- one of at least 3 colleges that are shutting down as institutions of higher learning this year. Mt Ida College is (soon to be WAS) a D-III school in the northeast. The best we can hope for is that Acres can provide some backup in case of injury. I can't imagine that the weight program was very sophisticated at a cash-strapped, D-III school.

I think you're right Trackfan and I expect a couple of dropdowns. But as high quality as Allen and Burrell are, I know our coaches have their work cut out.

Acres is not coming here to start. If he is starting, there has likely been a slew of injuries. My point was that he adds depth. He is coming here as a walk-on which means they are still looking to grab 3-4 OL. As much as we think we know who is available, they know who is truly available and who might be interested in coming to ACU. Remember too that they are looking for not only football players, but great students as well as quality young men.
I just think it is pretty cool that a kid from a D3 school will have the opportunity to be on a D1 team. He probably never thought after HS that he would be on a D1 team. Now he is!
If you read more about Mount Ida College, it is truly heartbreaking what took place for the faculty, staff and students.

As for Allen, we just got out recruited. He is from Maryland so Hammond is not exactly close to home. I think there's a problem ... OL transfers can come and start immediately and we can't get them.

Maybe the lights are not bright enough in Abilene.

Maybe the lights are not bright enough in Abilene. I can’t imagine they are any brighter in Hammond, LA.
