For the next few days, I will create a poll to see what you, the catchatters think. Are we better at said position, worse, or not sure yet. Please don't just do the poll, but explain why you voted the way you did
Let's look at QB's- In 2021- Earle Mansell H. Anderson Baker (walk-on) Cross (walk-on)
2022- Mansell Long (transfer Ariz. St) H. Anderson McIvor (transfer Texas Tech) Highhouse (walk-on transfer from Butler) Baker (walk-on)

Not having Earle is a big loss. Mansell did not develop and may have taken a step backward under Lambo’s tutelage. It seems like we have more talent this year and based on his history, a better QB coach. It will be interesting to see if Mansell and the others flourish under a new coach/system.
So I voted ‘wait and see’ but I’m very hopeful.

It will be interesting to see where Earle ends up on the depth chart at UNT. They continue to add transfer QBs to the mix.
Once Mansell was named the backup, he had one role, run the ball. He did that very well. But once Earle got hurt, and Mansell was named the starter, he did struggle at times throwing the ball. I believe not all of that was on him. Our WRs were small and most were not extremely fast. It is hard to throw guys open when you can't see them and they can't get separation. With this new receiving corp, which is bigger and faster, I think Mansell will be better. Long is another athletic QB. Remember, Ariz St moved him to TE/WR to get him on the field from time to time. Anderson was clearly the #2 guy in the spring. He seemed to have a good grasp of the offense. McIvor is probably the best pure passer. He came from a spread offense at San Angelo Central. Highhouse and Baker give us added depth.
So overall, I said the same as you Oscar. I think we are MUCH deeper than last year. Whether it is Mansell or another QB, one of these guys needs to take the reigns and not look back.

Without knowing the day 1 starter and who will start long-term, just the eye test indicates we have a much deeper QB room. Stone could have been a star, but I think our current QBs have the opportunity to be better partially due to more talent overall on the team.

I agree that losing Earle was a pretty big loss. I do think some of the new guys have the ability to be just as good as what Earle could have been for ACU.

I don't think losing Earle was as big a loss as others. While he had the potential to be a strong leader there were still a lot of inconsistency -- albeit not all his fault. We LOOK good on paper at the QB spot and need someone to rise to the top and truly lead this team. I'm looking forward to some solid competition for this spot.

Its hard to be a great QB if you are running for your life. An improved line should help whoever emerges as QB1.

I’m going against the conventional wisdom and saying that we are better at QB as well as deeper. Nobody has a starting spot going into the fall so there should be fierce competition. An improved OL and a strong running game should mean we will be awfully good on offense.

I hope that Stone Earle didn't make a big mistake with his move. Really enjoyed getting to know his dad a little bit. Stone seemed to be a talented, nice guy. Hope that things work out for him but, at least for this year, it doesn't look very promising to me. Lots of competition.

I'm a big Stone Earle fan and think he made the biggest of mistakes transferring to UNT. That said, adding Long and McIvor to the QB position is big, methinks. They will make Mansell better with competition and if he falters throwing the ball then certainly Long and McIvor can sub in. This is a deep position and Patterson and company certainly know what they have in McIvor. I would not at all be surprised to see McIvor take over the starting QB position, Long added to WR in certain situations and Mansell continue as a running weapon.

I am also one of the ones who think we are both deeper and better. Now, we are not proven yet. Still, I think the talent is there. I agree that the competition will be really strong this Summer. Again, I wish we had more time with these players before the season starts but I like who the coaches have brought in. I will miss Stone. I liked him and his play. I also liked talking with his dad at games and his insight. I hope him the best at UNT, but he will find it tough there. I am hoping the OL makes a difference with the QBs and RBs but time will tell.

Earle had the arm and athletic ability but played within a system not optimized for his kind of talent. The question this coming year will be one of two: will the system be optimal for a star quarterback or will a star quarterback learn and emerge from within a new system? No way for me to know our situation nor the special talent and match to the offense we will be able to run.

I agree we are deeper…I’ve not yet seen anyone currently on the team spin the ball as accurately as Stone did under pressure. Enough of Stone (a very polite young man) and his wonderful family...the past is done and gone. I’m hopeful the current QB’s can improve their accuracy and decision making. It should be easier with the taller and faster receivers added. Lastly, I have to believe the offensive scheme will be more dynamic than under AD. I can’t wait to see the season unfold…

With this many QBs, the receivers should get lots of reps. I have to think that depth will make us better.
