I voted much better. This might be the best OL of ACU’s D1 era. There are 5 former Big 12 linemen transfers at least.

I said MUCH better and here is why. Last year we went into the season with 5 new starters- Moore, Knox, James (JC player), Thielen (moved from the DL) and Simmons (JC player. This year, we return 3 starters, Moore- all-conference, Knox and Thielen. Then we add Ghirmai, who instantly makes us better. Pullen, Howerton and Sakiri should get plenty of playing time too. I'm excited to see what Kinney and Fogle can do, but what is great, is there is NO rush to get them on the field. Give them time to develop to see what they can become. Love what this staff has put together on the OL!

Stopped for a bite in Meredian, MS on my way to East Texas and saw the new posts. I said "much better" because we are adding some quality athletes to our holdovers who have been in the program for several years. If this isn't the best OL we've had, it certainly is the deepest. My immediate question is--What happens to Thielen? Could he be moved to DT. How about the new kid from TT? At 350 he could be a force at nose guard. We are going to be much, much better which ever we go. Excited.

I voted much better…purely on potential & size. The staff has a completely different emphasis on players they want to bring in…I like it and can’t wait to see how they play together.

What everyone else said + a proven d1 coach who was good enough for Baylor for a minute and a half.

I don't think that you can look at the talent these coaches have brought in and not say we are better. They need to come together quickly and, again, time will tell what the coaches are able to do with them. I am feeling better over-all.

Clearly the talent we are seeing this coaching staff bring in is much better than what we've had -- and that goes for the OL. I'm as excited about seeing these guys on the field as any season before!

Anyone know if Reese Moore has put on weight for the coming campaign?

Anyone know if Reese Moore has put on weight for the coming campaign? He’s up to about 290-295

It seems that we’ve been overmatched at times as other teams were simply too big for us to move inside. And we certainly couldn’t run around them. Everything had to be perfect just to move the chains.
It would seem this group has closed the size/strength disparity a lot. And that should help the offense not be such a struggle.

Does anyone have any insight into the development of some of the roster holdovers who weren’t starters last year? Who’s ready to fit into the rotation this year?

That’s the one area where we have come up empty with our recruiting effort.

It looks to me that ON PAPER the OL is better than last year. Losing Truett Knox to a medical retirement is a big loss -- Truett did a credible job at center last year. Some keys to line play for THIS year - continued improvement from starters R Moore and Thielen. I also think this line can be much better is some of the non-starting returnees take a step forward - Howerton, Wy Tate, Ty Smith and Jax Andrews. Of the newcomers, it would appear that Ghirmai, Pullen and Sakiri have the most potential to help immediately.
I am still interested in seeeing where Thielen ends up playing. If one of the returnees and/or a newcomer clearly beats out Thielen, then I could possibly see him being moved back to DT -- it does not make sense to move him back if he is clearly one of the top-5 offensive linemen. Getting our offense clicking must be the top priority this year.

As I read the description of Lee’s offense which emphasizes quick reads and releases by the QB it occurred to me this might be an additional plus for our O Line in pass coverage. Linemen won’t need to hold their blocks as long.
