This goes without saying and has been said by Lassiter and others, but the physical size is unreal. Taylor and Golightly are massive WRs and they can run. Cattitude and I were talking about Ghirmai; dude is a physical specimen.
Morgan and Schultz have added weight in the middle of the DL. Both are big. Morgan still moves really well with the added weight. He was in the backfield a lot
Jolly is so tall and long at corner. Even though he didn't play, when he ran out, I thought for sure he was a WR.
Kicking, Zepeda missed a 47 yard attempt. It was long enough, he just pushed it left. He did make a much shorter one later in the scrimmage.
Overall, I think this team is trending the right direction this early into the season. I'm not alarmed that the defense was a step ahead. In fact, if the offense came out and dominated, I might be thinking be ready for a lot of 40-35 games. But there is oodles of talent on offense. I got the sense on offense, everyone really wanted to make a big play and it just didn't happen. I didn't see panic, but maybe just trying too hard. As I said last night, once they did red zone offense, it all came together. The defense could not stop them
One of the advantages this team has this year is 3 QBs. Mansell, as has been discussed, had a set of plays just for him when Earle was healthy. But there was no one behind those guys. We have 3 capable QBs, we really do. Whoever is chosen to lead this squad will be very interesting.
I'll end with this; I'm as excited about football as I have been in a long time. Will it all come together? I hope so, and if it does, watch out

There was a difference that was noticible last night at the scrimmage. The whole thing was somehow more coordinated, both our offense and defense. There were several outstanding individual efforts but what I liked best was the team performance. Now a great win to start the season and a good showing against Missouri (win or lose) should signal a fine year ahead.

I guess after reading all the posts about the scrimmage the most intriguing position to me is what is happening at DT. Morgan seems to be a given. I don't see Schultz in the 2-deep but mavsman talks about him showing well. We have a walkon freshman (Oke) playing with the #1's and he didn't play that position in HS. Then you have a 260 lb DE (Warkinton) in the rotation too. Then there is sophomore Eades who may become our best DT. Eades, Morgan and Schultz have become 300+ pounders which they were far from last year. Is it the change in coaching philosophy thst is enabling the total overhaul of this position? Did the players add the weight on their own? How did the addition to the position come about for Oke and Warkinton? Are there others in the wings? Will the addition of Hibbert as coach be a dividend payoff? It may take some games to see if this rotation works, but I really like the way this coaching staff has taken a position of weakness from last year and started moving pieces to make it a strength.

Two weeks to go. I assume one more week of preseason camp followed by game week prep for Lamar?

Classes and opening day assembly (chapel) start two weeks from today. That means two more weeks of practice in what we used to call 2-a-days. Having our first game on a Thursday can be a blessing (counting it as an bonus half-week of prep) or a curse (can't follow the usual routine in preparation for a Saturday game). I have been impressed by the intentionality that I am seeing in this staff -- hopefully that extra half-week will help the team look exponentially more prepared. I do think we will have a big advantage over Lamar -- we can look at our game films from last year and basically what we will be seeing on Sep 1. The Cardinals can just about throw the game film out from last year -- completely new coaching staff for ACU with very, very different schemes and 40% of the roster is completely new.

Nit picking, perhaps, but at the scrimmage it appeared that Fogle was backing up Pullen and Yanta was backing up Theilen.

Do we know if there will be a Saturday scrimmage tomorrow (not open to public) or will today's practice be the final practice this week?

Next year, we are buying Bogey a one-way ticket to Abilene so he can be at every practice

That would be nice. Considering moving to Abilene and offer my journalistic skills to those in power. Please delete the prior post, I don't seem to be able to from my end.
