I am sure there is a dilemma particularly for a new head coach who is trying to implement his schemes and mentality about how to approach a matchup where you probably have to take lots of chances in order to pull an upset. It wouldn't surprise me to see some new wrinkles with respect to scheme but if I was Patterson I think I would save those sorts of things for a WAC opponent. Completely unrelated, but I just saw the ACU mascot. Wow. After Willie the Wildcat tormented us last week in Manhattan we have to face a team with the same color scheme and another Willie the Wildcat on the sideline. That will be very jarring in person. Lulz. While I’m also hoping for a good showing by ACU, don’t forget that #14 ACU defeated #3 University of Texas during March Madness in 2021. Yup. Upsets do happen. Last year FCS East Tenn State trounced Mizzous conference mate Vanderbilt, a team the Tigers struggled against. Realistically, we are much closer to La Tech, who Mizzou embarrassed, than Kansas State…but on AnyGivenSaturday most anything can happen. Would love to catch Mizzou looking ahead and the Wildcats playing the game of their lives.

Lulz. @mixzouman What’s the one thing we should not miss when we make the trip to Missouri? Is there a game day tradition, place to eat, etc that we should make sure we see/do? Good question. Columbia is your typical Midwestern college town. With an 11 AM kickoff, several of the restaurants downtown will no doubt open earlier than usual. My pregame pick would be Shiloh Bar and Grill on Broadway since it will be a breakfast pregame situation. Downtown isn't too far from Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field. A lot of the bars and restaurants are situated along either Broadway (from Providence going east to College Avenue) and 9th Street (from Broadway in the North until it ends at the south on Mizzou's campus). The local restaurants that people would most likely recommend downtown would be places like Booche's (hamburgers) and Shakespeare's (pizza). Both of them are situated on 9th street (in between Broadway and the campus). Booche's is pretty unique. They have slider type burgers that are served on wax paper. They also only accept cash, but there is an ATM right outside. I would vote Billiards on Broadway as my favorite burger place however. It is located on Broadway like the name indicates and is really close to Shiloh which I mentioned earlier. After the game, I plan on heading over to International Tap House on 9th street which in my opinion is favorite sports bar viewing experience postgame. It's also on 9th street. This weekend will be Family weekend at Mizzou so I expect that there will be more people downtown on Friday night than a usual nonconference game. The tailgate lots open at 7 but I doubt it is a particularly robust tailgate scene over by Faurot for an early kickoff. If you are attending the game, I would certainly take a look at the SEC clear bag policy which might be more common than I realize across other leagues but I don't know the layout at ACU or the WAC. In terms of parking, the lots around the stadium require a parking pass. Across Stadium Blvd and on the edge of campus there are a few parking garages but those charge a decent amount. Might be $20, I don't recall what it is this season. If you are willing to walk an extra quarter of a mile or so, there is plenty of free parking downtown and a few garages on Mizzou's campus. Hitt Street Parking Structure which is downtown and between Hitt and 9th street is my go to spot. I missed talking about attractions and things to do. There is the typical team entry event that a lot of schools have where the players get off the bus and walk to the stadium with the band, etc. It's called Tiger Walk but at 9 AM it probably won't be a spectacular scene or anything. The stadium has been renovated quite a bit. It's not bad. It looks kind of like an SEC stadium nowadays. The rock M on the hill in the North endzone is a unique feature. I am biased but I think our campus is pretty nice. The Quad right in front of Jesse Hall with the columns from the original Academic Hall that burned down in 1892 is our most photographed area for sure. In terms of the town/area itself, Rock Bridge State Park is a unique geological spot and it has a neat boardwalk trail down to the Devil's Icebox. That's the stuff that comes to mind immediately at least.

That game was a huge bump for our basketball program. If you have never watched it you should watch ACU's documentary called, "First Dance". It's actually about right before the NCAA where we beat UT and right before COVID hit (2018-2019 season). That year we went 27-7. The following season the tourney was cancelled, but we still went 20-11 and were looking to go back to the dance. This was while we were still in the SLC, prior to the WAC move. It was a story about how both our men's and women's went to the NCAA for the first time the same year. Our women had a history of winning, but our men's team hadn't had a successful season for a LONG time prior to this rise. Ultimately we lost pretty bad to Kentucky, but it lit a spark in us that the NCAA is within our grasp and is now our expectation. I don't think you can understand the UT win without understanding that background. Plus it's just a very well produced NCAA documentary by our school's ACU TV. The following season, after COVID, we went 24-5 and beat UT before finally falling to UCLA.

Excited to see how the team travels and responds to adversity. I'd also like to see what happens on the first play fake by Missou. I'll have a lot more confidence in the Cat defense if the Missou receivers are not running wide open and there is any sort of pass rush.
I'm sure the Tiger's athleticism will take over in this game, especially as plays break down, but I'm hoping for signs of progress in terms of staying with assignments.

I watched a little bit of the documentary and then had it on background as I focused elsewhere. I'll have to find time to watch the rest. Basketball season is closer than we realize.

Looking at the numbers, only one Tiger defensive tackle in the two-deep has imposing size, reserve tackle Kristian Williams (#92, 6'2 314). The Missouri DEs are in the 270's to 280's. But the issue is probably quickness.
The RBs are also not big guys but probably quite explosive, and I suspect their receivers can all run.
Go Cats!

We will be tested in the middle, ends and secondary. I think I have seen some progress from all 3 of these areas though. The key will be can we sustain pressure all 4 qtrs?

I have been looking at the spread and it looks like 31.5 and 33 point spread (I was just going a google search and I am NOT very savvy about point spreads). I would love to see ACU beating the spread, as we have seen ACU do in the past. But, I just have too many questions. So I am saying 51-17 and ACU just missing beating the spread.
Missouman, thank you for dropping into the board -- very good analysis.

It’s interesting to look at Mizzoui’s record against FCS teams. And what’s this about ACU only having purple jerseys?

I am getting ready to drive to Columbia. I spent the night in the St. Louis area. Looking forward to a good game.
