She looks to have a good mid range jumper. We are more than filling up our commitment quotient.

OK, a report on what I saw tonight with Emma and Molly Daugherty who are 2025 recruits. 1st of all it was a horridly called game. The twins were manhandled by an aggressive defense that had no worries about fouls being called (can I say home court advantage?). But this in no wise dismayed me about their talent. Molly is 5'11" and can move with the ball. She is the shooter of the two. She handles the ball well with control and has a great presence on the court. Emma is 6'1" and a great defender (she gets her points too). She defended Carolina Forest's center and star for much of the night and held her to minimal points (maybe 5 or less). She is not quick (quick hands) but smooth on the floor. Both the sisters seem to glide and both spent time moving the ball up the court. They are the two stars with no other help on the court. Both are tremendously unselfish (too much so I thought) but tried to play within their system (which I could never figure out). I hope their lack of coaching doesn't hurt them down the road. But on the other hand, when they get to ACU and have good coaching and some weight training, look out. I see Molly as a possible point guard or shooting guard and Emma as a Bella Earle type Strong Forward.
How did they get to ACU? I talked with their dad, Chad (who played baseball at Kent State), and he said that the principal of Summerville HS met and got to know Julie's husband Rob, when Goodenough was the coach at Charleston Southern and that's how the contact was made. The girls had numerous offers and lots of interest from schools including Coastal Carolina, Naval Academy, Campbell, Charleston Southern, et.al. and Furman was courting them strongly just before they made the decision on ACU. They made a trip to Abilene last summer, where the girls attended Julie's elite camp, and met lots of people including Phil Schubert. They were really impressed with the people, the school and with Julie. Chad said that Julie recruited them "old school" with letters, texts, cards, etc. letting the girls know how much they were wanted. Add all that with the Christian environment and they were sold.
You never know how recruits will turn out but the upside to these two girls is pretty high. And they have just played 5 games into their junior year. Both scored in double figures tonight and although being fouled almost every time down the court they never lost their cool (which to me was really impressive). I hope to go to Summerville after the 1st of the year to see them play at home in their district.

Great reporting, Bogey. Thanks.
Looks like Julie is building toward another championship run that could last several years.

Don't know if this fits here, if this is a recruiting thing, or just a let's play there for fun thing, but former Wildcat Amber Tate Branson brings her Lipan Lady Indians to Moody Coliseum tonight for a 6 p.m. tipoff against Lubbock Cooper. The boys varsity will play afterward.
Many will remember Amber playing on the late '90s teams at guard. She is a '99 graduate.

The Summerville girls lost to a good team from Virginia but played a good game. Down 8 at the half but rallied to take a 5 point lead in the 3rd qtr. Couldn't hold the lead in the 4th. Molly Daugherty lead the team in scoring with 27 points. Emma (6'1") played point guard and is a very good ball handler. She only scored 5 points (not the shooter Molly is) but was definitely the floor general. Both girls got their hands on many passes and each had 5 steals. And they are just juniors. After the game I talked to both girls and they are very impressive young women. They (and their parents) are really happy with their decision to come to ACU. They watch all our girls games and are enthused about the brand of ball we play. I think they will thrive under Julie.

Will put this here for lack of a better place. Drove down to Summerville to take in the Daugherty twins in action. They won over a very good Lexington team by 19. Don't have the final stats on the girls but both in double figures. Both are hard nosed defenders and active on the court. Emma at 6'1" tends to clog up the middle and gets her hands on lots of passes. On offense she is the point guard and handles the ball extremely well. Julie has told her she will probably play the "3" in our offense. Molly at 5'11" is the quicker of the two and also gets her hands on lots of passes and has a smooth release on her outside shot. Tonight she scored mostly in the paint. Again, officiating was brutal. But the highlight of the night was seeing the boys game. #1 vs #2 in 5A, and #3 and #5 in all if SC. Lexington has a kid (Cam Scott-recruit for Texas) who is a great ball player. At 6'7" or so he towered over the Summerville kids (tallest at 6'4") and scored at will in the 1st quarter. Summerville was quicker and stronger and played even for most of the game but ran out of steam in the last 4 minutes of the game and lost by 5. Lexington had two at 6'7" and a 6'8" center so their height advantage was real. Every seat in the gym was taken (maybe 1,500) and the noise was deafening. Quite a night for me. By the way, the Summerville star (6'4" Yannick Smith) is going to East Carolina to play wide receiver in JD Baker's offense next year.

Emma Daugherty hurt her knee last night. Xrays this morning showed a possible meniscus tear and/or MCL sprain. Much better report than was anticipated last night. MRI tomorrow. Julie has talked to Emma this morning and once again the family reports the talk was "pure class." They love coach Goodenough.

Hopefully, Emma will be good with the smallest of injuries that it could be. Hate to see student-athletes get hurt!

MRI showed a torn ACL for Emma. Surgery and 6-9 months of rehab.
