I happened to notice that Braden Bossier dominated today. . She had 16 kills out of 25 attempts. Yikes.

Had a little bit of a family medical emergency and wasn't able to pull up the final score until a little while ago, but that was an impressive opening performance. Congrats to the ladies and keep it up.

Just got around to posting something on the ACU win against HCU yesterday and ACU has already won the first set against Tech (as Bogey noted above). I did not see the HCU game, but followed on live stats. Based solely on stats, it would appear that ACU is taking defense very, very seriously. Bryley Steinhilber is probably playing all the way around, because she had a boatload of digs, as did libero Sara Carrizales and true freshman defensive specialist Abby Christian. Lots of block at the net --- Bree Box, Braden Bossier, Emily Mekelburg. I loved seeing Braden Bossier have such a productive day on kills. It appears that when the opposing defense focused on the outside hitters, setter Madaline Guffy fed it effectively to the middle blockers. Madaline Guffy split time setting last year with a 5th year senior, but this year it looks like Madaline is THE setter and based on the first game, she is absolutely killing it. Good first game that appears to be carrying over to the Tech game today.

Solid effort by the Wildcats against a Tech team that has potential to be an upper-tier team in the Big 12. The 2nd set was a little disappointing, but ACU stays right on the Red Raiders heels in the 3rd and 4th set. Good effort. Back home for a home game on Tuesday against TAMU-Commerce. Then, Providence, North Dakota and Grambling come to Abilene for a tourney, and a week from Tuesday, Tech returns the favor by coming to Abilene to play the Wildcats. 5 home games coming up -- hope that there is a good turnout for these games. VB got some really good crowds last year and hope to see the same this year.

Over-all it seems to have been a good opening weekend for the Women's volleyball. There looks to be a lot of positive changes and things to build on. Here's to only getting better.

Thoughts on the weekend, again based solely on the stats and game articles on ACUsports.com:
-I really like what appears to be a much more aggressive defense -- more blocks and more digs.
-Libero Sara Carrizales seems to be the real deal -- lots of digs. She played pretty well at defensive specialist (DS) and some libero last year.
-It appears that Bryley Steinhilber will be playing a LOT this year -- appears to be on the back line quite a bit. Last year her defense on the back line improved immensely and it appears that she is improving even more as she spends a lot of time on the back line. She will have to be in superb shape to be able to stand up to the grind of playing lots of time in most, if not all, of the games.
-Since I was not able to watch on TV, so not certain who is playing at Right Side hitter (RS) -- both of last year's RS co-starters graduated. In the HCU game, it does not show a RS starter. In the Tech game, it shows Bryley starting at RS. RS is not her natural position, but she is the most adaptable player on the team right now.
I look forward to seeing a game or 2 from the ACU Tourney on TV -- I know the Saturday game against Grambling will be on ESPN+.

Lots of freshmen starting. Not sure why. TAMU-C is not very good, but don't want them to get momentum.
Live Stats not functioning -- first game jitters effecting the scorers table also.

Briley not dressed out. Not sure about Madaline, who was fantastic this last weekend.

ACU looking much better in set 2. We are playing 4 freshmen at some times. Live Stats appeared to be fixed, but they are "dead" in the 2nd set as well.
