My two cents--If we end up with a D2 or JUCO coach, what have we gained? And we've probably lost a recruiting class and any momentum we could have had. That would be very, very discouraging. Someone has apparently hijacked Bogey's Cat Chat identity. The REAL Bogey thinks we need to hire the RIGHT guy. A high school coach maybe. We are onto you imposter. What have you done with Bogey? #FreeBogey

I'll play along, Fake Bogey. UCA is 9-1. UCA is in the FCS Top 10. UCA is going to the play offs. UCA beat ACU by 31 points. UCA hired a JUCO coach 3 years ago. Sam Houston is 9-1. Sam Houston is in the FCS Top 5. Sam goes to the playoffs every year. Last year Sam made it to the FCS Semifinals. Two years ago Sam made it to the FCS quarterfinals. Sam beat ACU by a wide margin last year. Two years ago Sam beat ACU by a wide margin, but lost to a D2 team 47-21. Imagine what that D2 coach might do with FCS talent? I don't want an average D2 coach. Or an average Juco coach. I'd rather have Steve Spurrier Jr. (imagine how hard it is for a die hard Georgia fan to say that?). But a D2 or Juco coach that has gone the distance. I'll take it. And I will be excited about it. Now give us back the real Bogey, imposter.

Comes with age. Confusion that is. You're right, I want the right man. I guess I was led by the pessimism I read this morning, you remember, "beggars can't be choosers". I really don't want a HS coach, just was trying to keep options open and stir discussion. Bottom line is we've had 4 years of mediocre records. Our HC had D2 coordinator experience, our DC had JuCo experience and our OC had only D2 position coach experience. We have to do better than that with a hire. I'm ready to win. Whatever it takes.

"Whatever it takes". That's what Sherwood Blount and the SMU 9 took to heart.

We need someone that can recruit, especially in our area which includes Texas and Oklahoma. I did some checking about Spurrier Jr, who was hired to head up OU's recruiting. Last year OU's recruiting class was ranked 19th by 247. This year they are 5th. Caution: We are mostly just having fun here. When I post serious stuff about a player quitting the program and such, I don't put it on Cat Chat until it is confirmed by two sources, or at least one source in an absolute position to know. For the search, I have not been this cautious.....Spurrier came up based on a Twitter follow and a known desire shared by most coaches who have been relegated to the sideline to return to coaching. I have no idea whether we have expressed an interest or whether he would laugh when he hears our salary range and other budget limitations..... jest havin some fun and dreaming.... ADDENDUM I will say this. No matter how speculative and far fetched it might be and however tentative his interest, if our search committee and search firm don't do some follow up they should be summarily fired. #HeadBallCoachjr has a nice ring to it. Whether he is a serious contender or not, I really like the idea of Spurrier Jr. as the next HC for a couple of reasons. 1. He can recruit. He has recruited at OU very well and that should translate to the FCS level, just with less talent. Even if he just recruits on his name alone, that would be a major selling point at the FCS level. I think he could get ACU, talent wise, to the top of the SLC. 2. He is a big name hire. Don't know a thing about his coaching but he would bring a lot of hype to a program and athletic department that will be heading in to one of their biggest year in history, just look at his almost 30k twitter followers. There will no doubt be outlets such as ESPN giving some coverage to the hire based on name alone. With ACU's old fashioned style, they would certainly not capitalize on the hire as much as they could, but it would bring publicity none the less. Just imagine if his dad were to attend a game? He may be a crap coach, but he would certainly bring a lot to the table that would help promote ACU athletics as a whole. Even if he isn't the best coach, I think he could make up for it with better recruiting and other SLC schools.

It should be noted that Spurrier Jr also recently followed the Georgia State athletic director on Twitter, who fired their head coach last week as well.

No one else we are looking at comes close in terms of grabbing national attention. Big name hire. And he can recruit. I don't know about his coaching ability either, other than the fact that he has NFL, SEC, Big 12, and PAC 12 coaching experience as a position coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator and he has helped on teams that won conference and national titles. I hope our AD is jumping all over this. That's just the sort of hire it sounds like he wanted to make. Harrell might have been a better fit because of his background but he would not have been a big name hire like Spurrier jr. If he is successful, he will be gone in five years max, but he could leave momentum to build on.....Someone send him highlight tapes of Dallas, a QB he could build his offense around.

Not that it means anything but Coaching Search has posted a list of those on GA State's short list and Spurrier Jr. isn't mentioned. Some names tossed around for the Georgia State job include Arizona State OC Chip Lindsey, A uburn OC Rhett Lashlee, Clemson co-OC Jeff Scott and Stanford OC Mike Bloomgren, according to USA Today's Dan Wolken

If he want to be a HC it would most likely come at the FCS level at this point.
