Graham Harrell isn't coming to Abilene...that dude is on the fast track of big time D1 OC jobs and eventually head jobs. He doesn't take a step down from UNT to come to ACU as the HC. He has tied himself to Seth Littrell for a bit and will ride with him for a while. I don't see any up and coming FBS coordinator taking this job. Just not enough shine and for most of those guys, being a big time HC or at least OC is the goal. Coming to ACU delays that substantially. Now you could probably get a FBS position coach. Also, from what I am hearing from the ACU coaching tree, the way things were handled is really putting handcuffs on them when it comes to bringing in a former player, especially if that player has ties to KC or Thomson. I you are probably right about this one. Mostly D2 and juco head coaches in the serious mix. No FCS or FBS assistants?
None that I have heard about. But I don't think the search is over

you are probably right about Graham Harrell. He's young and ambitious. Mostly D2 and juco head coaches in the mix. Unless they come from a powerhouse JUCU or D2 school this is disappointing. Probably due to budgetary constraints, but I feel like a coach with D1 experience would have been the best fit to help make ACU a winner now.

you are probably right about Graham Harrell. Mostly D2 and juco head coaches left in mix of serious candidates. U nless they come from a powerhouse JUCU or D2 school this is disappointing. Probably due to budgetary constraints, but I feel like a coach with D1 experience would have been the best fit to help make ACU a winner now. Let's hope. I would not be disappointed with Dorrell from NWMSU or Wristen from CSUP or maybe the coach from Garden City juco They are ranked #1 with one game to go.

I might be crazy but I would rather have a winning D2 head coach over a FBS assistant with no head coaching experience.

A guy like Wristen has already proven he can coach. His CSJUP team humiliated Sam Houston a couple of years ago, and Sam went deep in the FCS playoffs.

I'm guessing the expected candidates interviewed early on...Shipley, Sandifer, Brad McCoy, etc. and I would think they contacted others that are college coaches and need travel arrangements due to playoffs/in-season preparation.

Do we know if these guys meet criteria #1? We on Cat Chat have to leave the committee with some work to do. Seriously I don't know. I did take one potential candidate off the list who is I believe Jewish. That would make the practicing Christian requirement awkward. Otherwise, it is hard to say from a bio and a search of names didn't turn up any news that would provide insight.

We need someone that can recruit, especially in our area which includes Texas and Oklahoma.
I did some checking about Spurrier Jr, who was hired to head up OU's recruiting. Last year OU's recruiting class was ranked 19th by 247. This year they are 5th.
Caution: We are mostly just having fun here. When I post serious stuff about a player quitting the program and such, I don't put it on Cat Chat until it is confirmed by two sources, or at least one source in an absolute position to know. For the search, I have not been this cautious.....Spurrier came up based on a Twitter follow and a known desire shared by most coaches who have been relegated to the sideline to return to coaching. I have no idea whether we have expressed an interest or whether he would laugh when he hears our salary range and other budget limitations..... jest havin some fun and dreaming....
ADDENDUM
I will say this. No matter how speculative and far fetched it might be and however tentative his interest, if our search committee and search firm don't do some follow up they should be summarily fired.
#HeadBallCoachjr has a nice ring to it.

Before anyone asks me: No I don't know where Spurrier jr is in his walk of faith. I do know that his grandfather was a Presbyterian minister who named his son Stephen and by extension his grandson after the first Christian martyr. And I know that Jr's dad took a lot of heat for hiring a Chaplin for the South Carolina Gamecocks to minister to the needs of his players. Not much out there about Stephen, Jr though....but I should point out that Thomas and Alexander Campbell were once Presbyterians. It's in our restoration heritage blood.

Hmmmmmm Within two hours of the time I followed him. Note that he only follows 1,100 while 29,000 follow him. It wasn't an automatic you followed me, so I will follow you kind of deal. #Fun and Gun West? #HeadBallCoachjr Many, many unanswered questions. Is he a devout Christian? Will be be required to turn in our caps for visors?

My two cents--If we end up with a D2 or JUCO coach, what have we gained? And we've probably lost a recruiting class and any momentum we could have had. That would be very, very discouraging.
