ACU loses game two, 5-1. It seems like we scored all our runs in game 1

Cats played a pretty complete ball game last night in defeating Lamar, 6-4. Good pitching, good hitting, and no errors in the field. Now can we sustain that level of play?

Doesn't look like it. 13-1 Lamar in 8th.

I sat through a couple of ennings and couldn't take how bad we were playing; not only bad pitching, but bad hitting, bad throwing.... I don't know if it is mental or what. I know we have talent on this team. We just aren't consistent.

consistency is the issue

Consistency is mostly mental and about culture. Doesn't correlate directly to talent. Surprising given all the experience and upper classmen we have. Give Coach M a couple seasons and I bet we become very consistent.

In this case consistency also involves a very shallow pitching staff.

Even with their inconsistency, congrats to the guys for hanging on and winning game 3 against Lamar. They are ahead of last year.

Good win vs. McNeese last night. Chirpich continues to win.

We are fighting for that tourney berth. One game out of 8th with 11 games to go. 2 games left with McNeese (behind us in standings), 1 series left with UNO (behind us in standings), 1 series left with Nichols (1 game ahead of us currently), and one with UCA (1 game out of 1st place). If we could win each series left, we ought to be in. A series sweep vs. McNeese or UNO would surely help our cause.

Looking at current stats really tells the story of our season. Luis Trevino leads the conference in lots of hitting categories. Don't really have another threat to deliver with him although several have had their moments. Only 2 starters batting over .300. As a team we are between 3rd and 5th in most hitting categories. Pitching is another story. We are near last in team era. and bring up the rear in lots of other categories. WE NEED PITCHING. Our team fielding is near the bottom of the conference too, as is stolen bases. WE NEED TO INCREASE TEAM SPEED. We lose Trevino this year, so WE NEED HITTERS. That's as near a summary of where we are as I can get. We lose 18 players (by my count) so we really need to replenish the roster. Signing the kid (pitcher) from Canton may be a really good start.

Right now not looking good for a sweep of McNeese with the Cowboys up 9-3 in the 8th.
