RBs Tyson Grubbs and Colby Humphrey from Desert Valley HS in Arizona received an offer last night. Grubbs is listed at 5'11 192 and Humphrey is 5'11, not sure about his weight as I cannot find it listed anywhere. An article by Richard Obert on Big 150 Arizona prospects lists Humphrey at 180 lbs. He's the #38 player in the state. Grubbs is listed as the #66 prospect.

I would love to hear the Arizona connection with our new coach Brown. Is this a regular thing for him? Does he have a history at South Dakota St recruiting Arizona? We have one coach recruiting the heck out of Arizona and is the rest of our staff in Texas/Oklahoma?

Wildcatter, to answer your question, I believe the answer is yes, he is a regular recruiter there. I did a breakdown a few pages back of how many recruits South Dakota St had from the state of Arizona. It wasn't a ton, but usually 3-4 were on the roster.
I like that we are recruiting there. There are only 3 D1 football schools in Arizona- N. Arizona, Arizona and Arizona St. The majority of the guys we are offering from there aren't being looked at by the 2 FBS schools. It also makes some sense to stay away from Arkansas and Louisiana, as other SLC schools have better ties there. If we can recruit Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and a little bit of New Mexico well, that should help us long term.
Coach Briglin has replaced Coach Brown as our main recruiter in Oklahoma. He was there 2 weeks ago. Not sure who is hitting the road to Houston, though I know Lamberson was there recently. That is an area Coach Jackson did really well in.

Most of these guys from Arizona are studs and just the type of players we need to make us even more competitive in the FCS.

Out of the 16 guys offered from the state of Arizona, 14 are ranked in the top 66 prospects according to azcentral.com. As Nashville has stated, several of these guys could be major players.

Being from AZ it has been interesting watching all the offers there suddenly. I don't know how many of them we get, but don't see it being that less likely than pretty much any other state at this point.

Out of the 15 guys offered from the state of Arizona, 13 are ranked in the top 66 prospects according to azcentral.com. As Nashville has stated, several of these guys could be major players. I would think the largest factor going against us with these recruits is how heavily they are being recruited, like any other highly ranked recruit. I agree that several of these could be major players for us and would hope that would go in our favor, but bigger schools often still win out.

I like that we are opening up a new recruiting state and will be very happy to see us add players each year from there (Arizona). Recruits look for different things and their parents do too. I continue to read posts that intimate we are at a disadvantage going up against larger schools (or similar schools because of Abilene and where it is located). I understand the mindset but until we really believe our culture and athletics are on a level with others, we'll stay 2nd class to those we come in contact with. IMHO

Abilene may not be able to compete with the coast of Carolina but it should be able to compete with hot, dry Arizona!
