Abilene may not be able to compete with the coast of Carolina but it should be able to compete with hot, dry Arizona! Competing with ASU and UofA would be hard, they are really good Pac-12 schools. They used to be better, but still very good. NAU is the only FCS school there and it has a really good program as well as being in a very beautiful location up in Flagstaff. I agree our culture makes us a cut above; even some of our academic programs. For the recruit that wants a little something different, I believe we would fit the bill.

Here’s some interesting info. In the states of SD, ND, MN and WI there were 2 total 4/5 star recruits in 2017 so P5 and G5 other than the in-state schools hardly recruit there. But NDSU’s roster has 76 players from those 4 states. (They also have 10 players from South Florida) Meanwhile, AZ had 6 blue chips and OK 4. So it makes sense to look at the next level players in the states where the big boys don’t recruit heavily. If you are a Pac12 team, why spend money in AZ with California (48) right there.

Agree Tude, I started wondering yesterday just how successful the MVFC is doing with players there. If a recruit knows they won't get recruited, or play time, at a FBS program, then I would think many of them would start looking at higher profile FCS schools. Those are still the MVFC schools for now. It didn't surprise me that Brown had a history of recruiting there and I see a lot of potential coming from there. Besides the MVFC, I would think the Big Sky and MW also have some influence. I can't help but imagine that our offers won't make a few players go, "hmmm".

CB Kamdan Hightower from Chaparral HS in Arizona received an offer this morning. He is listed at 6'2 175 Hightower shows above average closing speed and timing. He would look great in purple and white. I do hope all these visits to AZ transfer into signings. It seems to me that the level of play out West (size, speed of the game, etc.) is better than average. And Chaparral has over 2,000 students. Here's a nice article on recruiting in the area from Arizona Central.com by Arizona Republic's Richard Obert.

A lot of these guys are very athletic in general. One of my old friends from Chandler HS was a quality QB throughout HS before he got recruited by Nebraska. He redshirted a year before becoming one of their top safeties. He was on his way to the NFL but a career ending injury stopped that when their car flipped driving back from the combine. Over-all, I just like seeing our recruiting expand. chandlerwolvesfootball.com/2014/11/25/tyrone-byrd-chandler-wolves-nebraska-cornhuskers/
