RE: The discussion about scheduling.
If the numbers I’ve seen on other message boards about our men’s basketball budget are close to accurate, we are spending far less than most schools that hope to win conference titles and go the playoffs. Like at least a million dollars less. I assume the same holds true for our women’s program.
One way to mange on a low budget is to cut costs for payouts to teams to travel to Abilene for Home games. This would help explain why neither the men’s or women’s home schedule includes better teams. We are getting schools that will accept the amount we are able to pay. The trade off is that scheduling lower level schools hurts our NET/RPI score and by extension the type of seed we can expect of we qualify for the playoffs.

Last 5 minutes of first half we lost our offensive rhythm and started freelancing. But, glad to see a 6"4" player for MSU is not much of a problem for our back line. Ball movement slow down does not work well with ACU's offense. However, MSU picked up on our sets and started a more aggressive defense causing some of our problems. They over played the passing lanes and we did not take advantage of that. I'll bet we do take advantage of their adjustments with our own changes in the second half. There is no quit in MSU but there is no reason this is not a bigger blow out. But the likely objective is to get all our players more experience. Just my guess.

Great 1st quarter, sloppy 2nd quarter. Stevenson seems to have some game but still is learning our offense. Adams with 5 blocks at the half but needs help when she gets pulled out from the paint. Miller and McLeod are solid.

Mabry missing again. Injured or Covid protocol?

I heard something about one player (don't know who) out with concussion protocol.

Ladies looked good today. I saw several things that I have no doubt Coach Goodenough and her staff will be harping on before the next game on Tuesday. Big score differential, but one of the reasons you play games like this is to get looks off other people and how they will react to plays, and how your defense reacts to other offenses. These are good learning and fine-tuning games, and I look forward to this season with these ladies. I think they are going to make a run for the conference title.

I noticed a few new wrinkles and some traps, but also some bad passing. Was glad to see McCloud break for the basket and get an easy one when they over player the passing lane on her. We have a lot of opportunities for that kind of response. These girls can shoot the ball, that's for sure.

If Makayla was in COVID protocol she wouldn’t have been on the bench. Maybe got a random elbow in practice. She is a special player. It’s really good to see Sarah picking up the slack.

Couldn't see her on the bench from Myrtle Beach.

She was there. Actually, I am not sure how the COVID protocol works. TCU had a player that was out for their first game of the year due to covid, but was on the bench. He has since played in the last 2 games. Concussion makes more sense, but honestly, it could be anything

NSU Women’s Basketball has had to take two weeks with no basketball activity due to the virus.

In their preseason press conferences both Julie and Joe talked about how their schedules were pretty much blown up, and they had to start from scratch. Last winter I asked Golding about non-conf. scheduling, and as has been said it's all about money. Golding said something like 'If we didn't schedule those teams, then we wouldn't have any home games until January.'

MSU was a much better test than McMurry would have been, I think. The Mustangs lost their head coach to cancer earlier this year so they are playing with a lot of sadness. They are big and have some players who could be playing D1.
The first quarter was the Adams and McCloud and Miller show. We are seeing how dynamic and explosive Anna and Maddie are and Alyssa took their 6'4 post to school.
Couple of observations: Paige struggled against bigger perimeter defenders. She works very hard on defense but seems to be more of a catch and shoot player than a shot creator. Josie has not missed a 3-pointer yet this season. Pretty sure she leads the country in 3-point percentage. I'm feeling a lot better about point guard. Kam had a very good game and the two freshmen were solid. Katie is a very good ball handler and defender but hasn't found her offense yet and Taylor, who didn't get many minutes, can drive and score and get fouled. Wonder if we might see more of her in bonus situations? Hannah is a project, but she is a fierce rebounder. Just needs some coaching on ball protection. Girl can jump, too. Alice is a player. IMO the only for sure rotation players, at this point, are Adams, Mabry, Miller, McCloud, and Mraz starting and Griswold and Horyna off the bench. 8 and 9 are still up for grabs.

Very good analysis and quite accurate. These ladies could indeed win conference. I have not seen or heard much about the rest of the teams in the Southland, but if they are better and more balanced than this group then I would be surprised. If I had only one wish it would be for a 6'4" or 6'5" post, but our ladies played well against Midwestern's bigger post. I liked our speed under the basket better than just height, even if we did get a few shots blocked.
