Players should be happy. And I think it was a wise choice.

An excellent result. This will give us the continuity necessary in building a consistent champion.

Very happy and think it is a win win for both Joe and Brette! Should be interesting when we schedule UTEP for an OOC game

This is great. I've never heard him speak in public, but he kinda sounds like Joe w/o hair!

As successful institutions evolve, the truly great ones maintain elements of their successful culture and improvise new initiatives needed for the future. ACU surely appears to have followed this formula in selecting coach Tanner. The remarkable progress of the team obviously has been strongly linked to the unique culture of the team so the challenge will be to recruit future players who fit into that culture and can improve on it. That means the athletic ability, the needed skills and positions, and the commitment to the evolving culture that the coach needs to execute well on that future. Our new coach seems very well positioned to do exactly this. This formula has worked in athletics as well as the business world and from what I heard from Coach Tanner today, it sure seems like this is his approach. The feeling tonight is relief, we sure seem to be in good shape. We can now face the future with optimism. So let us see what is ahead for our Wildcats.

In watching that press conference, what I saw most of all was a genuine love that he has for his players and love they have for him. Several on here said, the players are holding AD Ward hostage. That NEVER was the case! They trust him and they wanted to play for him. I would bet for some in that locker room, he has not just served as a coach, but as a father figure. This was the right move!

Great to see they got him! Those close to the program and not in administration see it as a shoe in. From outside looking in and working in administration the case is it could’ve been bad and could’ve been interesting. The stance they made publicly went the way it should but in a lot of other cases it doesn’t and leads to a disconnect. No need to beat a dead horse...ACU basketball will have the smooth transition they wanted and congrats l!

After watching them both, what I was struck by was Golding made a conscious and clear disconnect transition from ACU to UTEP. The speach was very much "that was then and this is now". He was very energetic as usual. Above the subject of a culture of winning was Joe's assertion that I am in El Paso now and I am a Miner. I suppose it was an appropriate subject to address but seemed a tad brash about it. I am sure the UTEP fans appreciated it though, as they can now say "we have our man". It was even interesting the way he answered the KTXS phone question. He told the reporter that Brette Tanner won't want anything to do with the Miners, which was not only quite opposite of what Brette said in his speech but just dismissive of ACU basketball in general. How could you just spend 10 years coaching a team to where you just beat UT and then tell them you don't want to come down here and play us? Yes, I realize it is "coach talk", but it is still a very peculiar answer and I thought Joe could have been a little more respectful and still support his new team. I just feel like Joe was trying too hard in his speech. Yes, the speeches were from two different people and two different styles, those were just my observations and was a little taken back actually. UTEP got a great coach and a great guy.

I think the comment that we don't want anything to do with the miners was more banter between friends. It was the same type of comment he made when he called out UT for a rematch. Not just coach talk, but also trash talk between two guys who love each other.

It was a good day for both programs.
I think if anything joe is going to say what he can to get people excited and loose. He’s in a foreign land right now after being in a very very comfortable spot the past few years. Lots of friends in Abilene and lots of support in Abilene. Starting all over isn’t easy. Two different pressers for two different transitions.
