Critical post, be warned
I was thinking about what Cattitude said the other day when he was watching practice; Coach Dorrel shot him a look, as if to say, why is someone in the stands.
Coach Dorrel wants things very quiet around the football team. Last year, the space under the scoreboard was blocked off and there were signs stated not to stand there and watch practice. There has been little to no information given about practice, etc. There have been a handful of 50 second videos of practices. Man, that tells us a lot.
I think we have often thought this is the sports information side that is dropping the ball, but I am starting to believe that is not the case. This is the way this staff wants it. It shows by the lack of putting players actual height and weight. It shows when they announce a FAKE lineup before every home game.
What a JOKE! How can fans, returning students, new students and alumni get excited about this year's team. THEY CAN'T! A 50 second video tells us nothing. NOTHING! I don't need to know every detail about every player, but give us something, anything to go on. There have been NO interviews with Coach Dorrel, players, or any other staff members. I bet if Dorrel found out that Lambo had shared information about the starting OL, he would get in trouble. Yes, we are fans, and in some ways, ACU Football owes me nothing. However, it is hard for me to get excited about a team, a team that I follow as close as anyone, and yet I know nothing about this squad.

Does anyone know if this was the way coach Dorrel handled communication about his teams at Northwest Missouri? Just seems strange to me that a D1 staff would be so secretive (secretive is really not how this hits me). You want fans to come but you give them very little info to spark their interest. I just don't get it.

I was one that used to watch parts of practice under the scoreboard sometimes. When I saw that blocked off I just shook my head becasue of its intentionality. Sorry, but I referrence that to the time I got in toruble for looking at my laptop while watching practice. Both of those were VERY intentional and confirm that the coaching staff is wanting to control information extremely closely. It also makes it hard for me to get excited. Why should I care about people whom I am being kept away from? Agree, you don't have to know every detail, but you care more about people when they are at least somewhat personal to you. Will I be glad when ACU wins? Yep, but it's like it's no longer my team as a fan and alumni. Its' some random group of guys wearing a color I am familiar with.... Dorrel spouting off about how special ACU alumni is, at more than one interview now, only makes his statements more hypocritical. His actions and his words don't jive. That's what happens when you play games with people year in and year out. It puts as dirty a taste in my mouth as watching Collums putting a player right back on the field after cussing him out on the sideline.

I could tolerate the secrecy if after last year's secrecy we had seen major changes and a new, exciting brand of football. Instead it was slow and the offense always seemed to be waiting on the sideline. Not sure what we are hiding that is such a big secret.

That is a very strange comment on the announcement that there will be no access to personnel after the scrimmage. Whaaaaaat is that about? As I said in another place, this comes across to fans as paranoia and we aren't good enough to be paranoid. Note...I've probably been to 20-25 practices over the last 3 or so years. Got kicked out today.

About the only conclusion I can draw from the obvious frustration and paranoia is that this staff has been put on notice. In previous years I’ve had nothing but positive conversations with Darrel and his coaches who seemed excited that fans might actually want to attend practice.

Yep. nothing will push that notice forward faster than both losing AND ******* off fans. That means the alumni comments in interviews are about saving face.
Edit- Does winning repair the bridges you burn along the way???

That could explain the "no access to acu personnel." I wouldn't read to far into it with the pandemic picking back up and everyone wanting to play a full season this year, they're probably just being careful and following ncaa guidelines.

I was there until about 10:30. At least it is good to see the team on the field and some fans in the stands.

I overheard on campus the other day that Kelly Masker is no longer with the football program, looks like her Twitter confirmed it. Anyone know what happened?
