So another TE gone as bogey mentioned in the other thread. I don’t see Stripling turning into Ennis but maybe he’s bigger than I give credit for. Ennis was thicker than Stripling when he arrived though.

Another surprise on the spring roster -- Oscar Hernandez is still on it. Oscar has been hurt for more than 2 years. I don't see him ever getting the kicker spot back from Blair Zepeda. Next fall will be either the 6th or 7th fall for Oscar. I just did not expect to see him on the roster any longer.
Now, if he was an o-lineman I might see it. I think we have 10 o-linemen in spring camp. Won't be seeing much (if any) live scrimmaging with 10 linemen in spring ball, with 4 of 5 starters from this past "season" gone.

I also have a hard time believing Myrick, a 185 lb receiver is now a fullback.

I spent a little time this afternoon reviewing the new spring roster and frankly, seeing the turnover in black and white makes me even more desponden. I keep track of players who appear on the roster at any time during the preseason or regular season. Last year, there were 15 players who started the season on the roster and who were not on the roster by the end of the season. Some players were gone before the season arrived -- Gabe Ortega, Kam Hill, Devin Dixon, for instance. Some of the 15 were walkons who learned quickly they had no chance of making a difference for ACU.
Now we move to the spring and having just reviewed the new spring roster and there are thirty three (33!) players who were on the roster at the end of the fall who are not on the spring roster. The crazy thing to me is that all 48 of these players could still be on the spring roster, if you were looking at eligiblity-alone. Many of them were starters. We know that Jack Gibbens and Kade Parmelly transferred to FBS programs as grad transfers. Several others have entered the transfer portal -- joining hundreds of athletes from around the country. Some are walkons who finally made the decision to give it up (at least at ACU).

According to a tweet from the track and field account, Brendan Harmon is now jumping for them.

I just saw that about Harmon. I was not aware of that at all.

How about Hayden Anderson? He's a freshman but who would be our number three QB? And who holds for FGs and EPs? One would hope they could pass if needed.

According to a tweet from the track and field account, Brendan Harmon is now jumping for them. My sense is that Brendan Harmon has moved over to T&F for good. The ACU T&F program has a history of taking ACU athletes that other coaches want to remove from their roster to provide scholarship space. The VB team moved Lexie Rawls's scholarship to T&F -- she was a pretty decent HS high jumper. But she did not pan out. The new softball coaches wanted to open scholarship space and the ACU T&F team took Taylor McKoy and she has shown some promise as a hammer thrower and particularly as a javelin thrower. I guess that the ACU football coaches wanted scholarship space and looked for a place to put Brendan and that has ended up being T&F. Why would ACU T&F be willing to take the scholarship burden from other sports? 1) The ACU T&F coaches are really good people and they are used to having to develop athletes -- the T&F program has a very large walk-on contingent. 2) Very importantly, the T&F program has space under the NCAA scholarship limit threshold -- neither gender is fully funded for the NCAA limit of scholarships (12.6 for men and 18 for women). The program is much closer than when we moved up from D-2, but still not fully funded. 3) In the past, the T&F coaches have been told that if they provide scholarship relief in the short term, they will be allowed to leave the scholarship total at the new level for good -- a very persuasive reason to take an athlete. 4) ACU has been actively trying to add jumpers to the team for the past 2 years and the new coach for jumps, Brielle Collett, is very good. I did a little research on Brendan's T&F career and he has some potential, particularly in the jumps. In his junior year at All-Saints, he did well at the Southwest Prep Conference meet (schools like St Mark's and FW Country Day), getting 3rd in the LJ, 5th in the HJ and 6th in the 400. His marks are walk-on caliber -- 21-8 in the LJ, 6-3 in the HJ, 50.44 in the 400 -- but they do indicate some potential.

Glad to see that Jacob Thielen was awarded a scholarship. Hard work pays off. Now I wish the spring roster listed his correct weight and that there was some word about spring practices.

With spring break coming in three days, one has to think there will be a spring practice schedule released very soon. Obviously, it will have to occur after spring break.

Looks like I was dead wrong here. We are in our 2nd week after a return from spring break and apparently the team has started spring football, but no info has come out. DISAPPOINTING!

I also think we have to understand the week that was. Men's basketball in the tourney. Women's basketball in a tourney. Softball, baseball and volleyball all playing. I was asked by Coach Farler if I was announcing the softball games last week. I told her, no one has contacted me. It just tells me how the athletics department was scrambling to make things happen. Could you imagine last week and then if our football team had opted out of the fall and had a game last weekend? Yikes!
