I'm fully on board with opening up this offense and building up excitement. Unfortunately as others have mentioned, it doesn't seem that this coaching staff has the ability and/or desire to do so all that often. As for this upcoming game, In my opinion, anything less than a 40 point victory would be a failure in my eyes, and allowing this school to even score into double digits, again, would be a failure in my eyes.[/b] I’ll up that to 50. Louisiana College lost to North American University, a team that has been beaten by 60+ points by D3 Hardin Simmons and to Lamar by 40+ points. ‘I can appreciate Bogey’s point that after last week’s shellacking the next couple of games provide an opportunity to prepare for battles ahead by beating up on weak opponents. Even so, I don’t see much to be gained by starting with a team like LA College.

This is more of mismatch than ACU/SMU. I don't want to run up the score but anything less than the SMU point difference is a negative in my book.

Watching this from afar, having shaken Coach Dorrel’s hand one time, and not being any thing related to a football purist or strategist, I’m wondering if these next two games are won by 20 points or less, at what point is a coaching change in order? The 3rd or 4th down and short hand off up the middle against a physically superior team makes no sense to me. Plays called that you expect to work against a team you are equals with will not work in a match up such as last Saturday. I just don’t see it.

I'm not panicking after getting blown out by SMU. Sure I would have liked to have looked more competitive but SMU is way above ACU in the kind of athletes they are recruiting. If we beat LC by 20 points then it is panic time. UTPB is decent but we should still win easily by more than 20 points. The next two games will tell me whether to give up on this coaching staff.

I wish they would mic the reporters but I still enjoy listening to the press conferences.

One of my concerns in the SMU game was that players I thought would be giant contributors this year didn't play a lot of snaps, some not entering the game until much later. Listening to Dorrel, there was a plan to limit most players to 35 plays or so, so that might be the reason. The 2 players that impressed me were Ryan Stapp, who made a series of tackles and pass defends in the 2nd half and Cirby Coheley who made 3 very solid tackles when he was in. Coheley moves well and at 6'4" 206 he looks the part of a LB. I certainly will watch him this game. Someone will have to tell me if Satterfield played. I didn't notice him but I think he has the speed and quickness to turn into a good CB. I was disappointed in T. Anderson last game, he seemed to always be "catching up" (against good receivers) and missed several tackles (as did Bullock at safety). I would really like to see Dillingham play--he has good length and speed for a safety. Coach Dorrel said there were several "special teams" players with injuries and that we'd see some backups play more snaps. Some different people will be getting chances to shine, maybe this will lead to some good performances by players we wouldn't ordinarily see. Go Cats.

Looking up Louisiana College on WIKI indicated it is NCAA Division III and not allowed to give football scholarships. Could that be right? Previously it was NAIA and apparently did not give football scholarships. The internet says that does not mean football players might not have some level of scholarship since other types related to academics or leadership could be given. I know when I quarterbacked the Galaxy intermural football team we did not give out football scholarships for intermurals but, hey, we were pretty good. Jim Womach and Gary McCaleb could really catch that ball.

Took a peek at LaColl roster. They have a number of transfers and some JUCO guys so we are not playing a middle school team. There are also about 175 names on the roster. I guess they are redshirting a large group to try and fill out a roster.
I think the coaches were wise in limiting snaps. I liked it that Dorrel and the staff see the first 3 games as a chance to evaluate ahead of conference. With the 4 game redshirt, it’s a smart strategy.

They have had games with Hardin Simmons and McMurry in recent years. I believe they can have 22 scholarships now.

I believe that U San Diego where Spadone played was also non-scholarship playing an FCS schedule. Could be wrong on that.

I believe that U San Diego where Spadone played was also non-scholarship playing an FCS schedule. Could be wrong on that. There are two FCS conferences that are technically non scholarship—the Ivy League and the Pioneer Conference. Both conferences offer extensive aid in the form of academic scholarships.

Coheley is going to be special, he adds some pounds he will be a dominant defensive player in the WAC. Stapp looked good and I love watching Earle play and lead, kid took some shots and kept on banging. Marshall is an impressive looking athlete, not sure why he doesn't have a number yet. Dillingham is out with injury suffered during SMU game. I agree with bucfan assessment about not stressing over the SMU loss, it's in the past, learn from it and get better. Some of my biggest achievements in life have come after my biggest disappointments and this team will rebound. I'm backing this coaching staff and will support them as long as they are at the helm.

Sorry to hear about Dillingham. I hope the injury is minor and he will be back soon. Is the Marshall you mention Jamal, the safety? Hoping other of our younger players shine today.

We are a couple of hours out. What I want is a good turn-out and a solid game. I really hope to see a lot of military there and start some momentum. Agree that we need to put last week behind us and learn from it. It's time to grow.
